Surgical Inventory Coordinator- FT - Days- Supply Chain

POSITION SUMMARY:

Performs a variety of tasks related to the purchasing of supplies, equipment and maintains inventory controls to include receiving, verifying, storing and issuing various supplies, materials and equipment for the Surgical Services Department. Assist clinical team members within the patient focused care system, and assist in performing a variety of duties, which may include clerical duties.

­POSITION EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School graduate/G.E.D. certificate required.
  • Clear and valid Texas driver's license required
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology required
  • Experience in material management and hospital experience preferred
  • Computer knowledge is required
  • Must be able to be sensitive to cultural and bilingual issues.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with all levels of nursing, administration, and physicians
  • Willingness to be trained and assist with clerical duties

JOB KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE­:

  • One (1) year of purchasing or materials management preferred continuous experience preferred.
  • Exhibits tact, enthusiasm, and patience.
  • Must be sensitive to cultural and bilingual issues.
  • Able to adjust and/or troubleshoot monitoring equipment, and computer equipment.
    • Strong interpersonal skills, knowledge of proper telephone etiquette, organization, and strong typing skills are highly desired.
    • Is knowledgeable of patient rights and ensures an atmosphere which allows for the privacy, dignity and wellbeing of all patients in a safe, secure environment.
    • Must have proficient organizational skills and computer skills.
    • Must be able to interact and communicate with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, and families in an effective manner.
    • Must have excellent customer service skills.
    • High degree of competency/experience in general.
  • Requires good communication and organizational skills.
  • Requires reasoning ability and good independent judgment.
  • Surgical Services experience preferred

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Promotes the facility mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others.
  • Considers mission, vision and values in developing services, standards and practices.
  • Maintains the confidentiality of all data, including patients, employee and operations data in the hospital and outside of the hospital.
  • Ensures Quality Assurance and compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Ensures compliance with current law and policy to provide a work environment free from any type of harassment and illegal and discriminatory behavior.
  • Completes requirements for in-service training, acceptable attendance, uniform and dress codes including personal hygiene, and other work duties as assigned.
  • Prepares special purchase requisitions as needed for ordering new supplies and equipment
  • Researches and selects (with Surgery Directors approval), products according to quality, price, serviceability, contracts and physicians preference.
  • Interviews vendors to secure bids and quotes
  • Coordinates with vendors the status of supplies, returns, repairs and loaner equipment
  • Acts as the liaison between Surgery and Materials Management regarding supplies and equipment
  • Assists purchasing agent to place orders as needed
  • Inputs Charges from Preference Cards into patients bill
  • Responsible for the monthly checking for expired supplies with the assistance of the surgical staff, keeps log book of such supplies
  • Maintains proper documentation of purchases and repairs
    • Supports and promotes excellence in customer/guest relations.
    • Introduces self and uses caring, thoughtful words either in person or on the telephone.
    • Demonstrates ethical and appropriate behavior for clinical environment to include, but not limited to, dignity, patient’s rights and privacy, and the maintenance of confidentiality of patient information.
    • Demonstrates caring. If unable to assist an individual in needs, offers to find someone who can.
    • Demonstrates proper telephone etiquette. If transferring a telephone call, announces the caller and briefly explains the situation before ending the transfer.
    • Always makes eye contact when speaking with patients, family member or significant others, visitors, employees, etc.

    • Keeps voice down; does not shout or use improper language.

    • Assists department unit Supervisor/Manager/Director and the unit with various clerical duties as directed.
    • Other duties as assigned by Director.
