Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Answer questions regarding billing and insurance concerns, collect payment, resolve non-payment of bills and assess customer service needs

Investigate and respond to all phone inquiries from patient/member, third party payers, and attorneys concerning billing, account status, claim status and eligibility issues.

Work with appropriate department/clinic/administrative staff to resolve questions and/or issues related to billing, coding and denials.

Provides a high level of customer service to all callers and patients

Perform maintenance as needed on the patient's insurance record to ensure accurate billing.

Document all patient interaction in the practice management system in a concise, accurate and timely manner

Keep abreast of current information and changes impacting Patient Accounting customer service and organize relevant information for daily reference.

Perform other duties as required to accomplish departmental goals and meet patient needs.

Qualifications:

Must have working knowledge of general medical terminology, billing, insurance, referrals, and authorizations; must be able to apply knowledge to effectively resolve issues.

Must demonstrate extensive knowledge of relevant billing regulations and insurance regulations

Knowledge of HIPAA.

* E-clinical Works experience a plus!

Skills and Abilities:

Demonstrate ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities in a rapidly changing environment

Understand healthcare coding and reimbursements systems

Demonstrate excellent communication and presentation skills, and the ability to interact professionally with people from all levels of the organization.

Ability to work with customers in a professional manner

Ability to listen and interpret the needs of the customer

Ability to handle a high volume of phone calls in a structured, contact center environment
