Job Details

The Tumor Registrar obtains information from patient medical records and other sources for patient follow-up within required standards and documents in the appropriate data system. Organizes information for abstracting functions (i.e. staging forms, pathology reports) in the Cancer Registry. Assists Tumor Registry Coordinator with the preparation of materials related to American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (ACoS-CoC) Requirements.

Minimum Education and Experience:




Associate's degree in Medical Technology/Medical field with 2 semesters of 'Human Anatomy and Human Physiology' college level coursework

Associate's Degree or Program Certificate from an accredited NCRA school


Two years' experience in a Coder, Registrar, or relevant hospital or physician practice experience.

One year Cancer Registry experience


CTR eligible within one year of hire (with successful certification required within 2 years of hire)

Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR)


Basic Computer literacy (Word, Excel). Ability to type 40 wpm

Proficient Computer literacy (Word, Excel).

Special Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities:

* Medical terminology, data entry proficiency with low error rate

* Excellent communication skills in both written and verbal modes

* Excellent organization skills, self-motivated, able to multi-task, and innovative

* Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Lotus Notes, Clinical Database software
