Culinary Utility - Part Time (Detroit)

Position Summary:

It is the responsibility of the Culinary Utility Person to prepare and transport food products from production kitchens to restaurants as well as from the storage boxes to the front lines while performing excellent guest service. All duties are to be performed in accordance with federal, state, local laws, regulations, and ordinances, as well as department and Company policies, practices, and procedures, within the framework and intent of the MGM Grand Detroit Mission Statement.

Essential Functions:

* Prepares food for service according to assignment by the Sous Chef or Restaurant Chef.

* Transports food products from production kitchens to restaurants or other food holding areas in a timely fashion.

* Follows all written established recipes.

* Moves food from holding boxes to the front line steam tables and cold bins for use by internal and external guests.

* Provides excellent and cooperative service to dining room staff and guests.

* Maintains clean and sanitary work areas throughout the meal period or working shift.

* Returns unused food items to overnight storage or other proper recovery areas according to established procedures.

* Maintains a constant awareness of safety and accident prevention, immediately notifying the supervisor and completing an accident report in the event an accident occurs.

* Assures that the food prep areas and related floor areas are properly clean and safe at all times from any spills or mess that have been created by self or others.

* Promotes and maintains the highest level of customer service to all guests while staying alert to their needs.

* Responds effectively to guest inquiries related to MGM Grand Detroit and the downtown Detroit area providing excellent guest service.

* Resolves guest complaints within scope of authority; otherwise refers the matter to management. Notifies supervisor and/or Security of all unusual events, circumstances, missing items, or alleged theft.

* Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

* 18 years of age or older.

* High school diploma or equivalent. Previous Culinary training or vocational certification preferred.

* Six months food production/preparation experience in a high volume restaurant.

* Food production/preparation experience in a three diamond rated property or above (AAA Diamond Rating) preferred.

* Ability to understand units of measurement, basic math skills.

* Excellent guest service and hospitality skills.

* Strong problem solving and listening skills.

* Self-motivated with excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

* Ability to lift and carry up to (50) pounds at a time.

* Ability to perform various activities such as constant standing, walking, frequent bending, reaching, kneeling, and squatting.

* Ability to work in an environment where pipe, cigar, and cigarette smoking is permitted.

* Ability to multi-task several activities and duties simultaneously.

* Ability to function and act independently.

* Ability to work well with people, in a team environment, and to communicate effectively both written & oral.

* Ability to function in a fast paced environment, under short time constraints, and within established deadlines.

* Ability to work a flexible schedule including extended hours, weekends, and holidays.

* Obtain/maintain food handler's permit.
