The Office of the Chief Information Officer is seeking to hire a highly competent and motivated individual in the role of Senior SQL Server Database Administrator. As a lead member of the Database Support team, this position is responsible for the implementation, configuration, maintenance, and performance of SQL Server RDBMS' supporting the data needs for the State of Iowa. The ideal candidate will enjoy problem-solving, have a positive, ambitious attitude, a thirst for knowledge and a desire to improve efficiencies through automation. As a senior level DBA, the candidate will work with the team to implement SQL Server database best practices and policies. They will mentor team members and empower their growth through knowledge sharing and stretch assignments.

Expertise to safeguard citizen data, providing security, stability and integrity are of utmost importance. Management/team lead experience in an agile environment highly preferred. Job Responsibilities: Ensure all components of a DBMS including storage, archiving, capacity management, high availability, backup and recovery procedures are built, configured and monitored correctly. Collaborate with the application development and network teams to design, implement and support the data infrastructure and environment of enterprise systems. Support database developers for query design and index requirements to optimize application performance. Deliver and control application deployments to test and production environments Implement and monitor approved access control lists of databases and applications Participates in various projects intended to continuously improve / upgrade infrastructure. Create or optimize ETL processes. Support Disaster Recovery planning, documentation and testing. Team lead for SQL Server Database Administrators. Responsible for project time and resource estimates. Job Requirements: Expert knowledge of relational database technology and ability to accurately communicate database technology to others. Experience creating and managing Database Standards in a production database environment.

Advanced knowledge of database backup and recovery strategy, high availability, and disaster recovery. Advanced knowledge of database performance management and tuning. Proficiency with the Microsoft development platform in a multi-tier enterprise system environment. 3+ years leadership experience SQL Server, VSTS, SSRS, SSIS (DTSx), TDE, Replication Excellent communication and documentation skills. Designing Logical Data Models and stewarding the data design of the asset and ensuring alignment with the larger roadmap goals. Stays current on technology trends to enable creative and efficient implementations.

Selectives

121 T-SQL Business Query Writing

6 months' experience writing complex T-SQL queries against SQL Server database which includes:

* SQL database experience must use most recent SQL release or two versions prior

* Queries against normalized, de-normalized and dimensional SQL database

* Use of database data models to design and construct queries

* Analyzing end-user presentation requirements and business rules and then translating into T-SQL queries

* Creating parameterized queries for application database calls

* Providing input to DBA(s) on data element formats and data granularity necessary to meet end-user requirements

And

139 Database

6 months' experience, 12 semester hours, or a combination of both in:

* Developing, installing and maintaining database management systems

* Working in conjunction with the business application process staff to design specific database applications (assure that it can be loaded in and that it works as intended)

* Developing and enforcing data definition standards to ensure data can be used across work units

And

140 Data Processing

6 months' experience, 12 semester hours, or a combination of both in information technology. Requires general familiarity working with computers, typically in more administrative types of positions.

And

233 Data Modeling

Must have 6 months experience acting in a data modeling role with relational database platform architecture. Required

skills include:

* Knowledge of Erwin, logical modeling, data architecture/normalization/analysis

Ability to:

* Define business rules and data requirements

* Perform all aspects of data analysis and logical data modeling, including both 3rd normal form of online transaction protocol (OLTP) applications as well as dimensional modeling for decision support warehouse applications

* Transform logical models into physical database designs, estimation of volumes and frequencies and denormalization as appropriate

* Build standards and administer all data models

* Collaborate with Data Base Administrators and the Data Warehouse Architect regarding the development and adherence of data modeling standards, methods and practices

And

554 Database Management

Applicants must possess a minimum of 12 semester hours of personal computer training, or equivalent contact hours that includes database management training, or 12 months of experience operating computers to produce work products which includes creating, modifying, or maintaining data bases. Minimum Qualification Requirements

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university and experience equal to three years of fulltime work: operating a multi-job computer; installing, operating and coordinating computer based networks; installing/maintaining database management systems; developing business application processes; developing/operating system programs; installing/maintaining personal computers, Local Area Networks and/or servers; managing operating systems; developing/delivering information management training; providing Information Technology (IT) customer service; or designing/administering Internet sites;

OR

an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting the completion of an approved curriculum/specialized training program developed and implemented by or in cooperation with state government; or eighteen semester hours of accredited post high school course work in one of the specialty areas listed above; or certification by an authorized educational institution/major computer or software producer in an area directly related to one of the computer specialty areas listed above, for the required education;

OR

an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting one year of the required experience for thirty semester hours of the required education;

OR

employees with current continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes experience equal to six months of full-time work as an Information Technology Specialist 4.
