Correctional Trades Leader

Must have and can actively demonstrate proficiencies in the areas of Electrical repair

Will be responsible for electrical repairs and installations as assigned, utilizing offender labor when applicable

Perform routine plumbing, carpentry, and HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) repair/maintenance work

Other areas of responsibilities may include but not limited to appliance repairs, painting, concrete work, snow removal, auto repairs, gardening, painting, lawn care, or other duties as assigned, utilizing offender labor when applicable

Responsible for the supervision of offender workers

Through the use of a lesson plan, train offender workers the proper techniques of the jobs assigned, including safety standards required by Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA ), and insure Department Of Corrections policies and procedures are adhered to and practiced

Candidate must meet the requirements for selective 177 -electricity

Selectives

177 Electricity

6 months' experience, 12 semester hours, or a combination of both in the planning, inspection, installation, or maintenance of electrical systems.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Experience equal to four years of full-time work in one or more of the recognized building (e.g., carpentry, painting, plumbing/pipe fitting, electrical and masonry) and mechanical/repair (e.g., air conditioning/ heating, auto mechanics, upholstery, and welding) trades;

OR

an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting thirty semester hours of post high school education from an accredited college or university with major course work in a recognized building and mechanical trade for each year of the required experience;

OR

employees with current continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes one year of full-time experience as a Furniture Upholsterer, Mason, Maintenance Repairer, Carpenter 1 or 2, Painter 1 or 2, Plumber 1 or 2 and Welder.

Additional Qualification Requirements

Within a period of time, as determined by the appointing authority, persons in this class may be required to obtain a license to perform electrical work in accordance with Chapter 103, Iowa Code

Designated positions in this job class require applicants to obtain the required commercial driver's license and endorsements within a period of time as determined by the appointing authority at the time of hire.
