Public Safety Dispatch Training Coordinator

Job Description

Responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating the training and development activities of Public Safety Communications personnel. Develops, administers and evaluates public information and educational programs. Assist in searching for, screening and interviewing applicants to fill existing and future job openings and promote career opportunities within the organization.

Essential Functions

* Completes quality assurance activities for employees and provide feedback and training to ensure growth and excellent job performance

* Conducts orientation sessions and arranges on-the-job training for new hires.

* Evaluates the performance and effectiveness of Communications Training Officer programs, and provides recommendations for improvement.

* Develops testing and evaluation procedures.

* Conducts quality assurance on a continual basis on call taking and dispatching skills utilizing existing quality assurance frameworks based on NENA and APCO standards.

* Develops and improves current quality assurance methods.

* Conducts or arranges for ongoing technical training and personal development classes for staff members.

* Confers with management and conducts surveys to identify training needs based on projected production processes, changes, and other factors.

* Develops and organizes and maintains training manuals, multimedia visual aids, and other educational materials.

* Plans, develops, and provides training and staff development programs, using knowledge of the effectiveness of methods such as classroom training, demonstrations, on-the-job training, meetings, conferences, and workshops.

* Maintains employee training records and application records.

* Reviews and evaluates training and programs for compliance with government standards.

* Ensures compliance with Texas Crime Information Center, National Crime Information Center (TCIC/NCIC) policy and act as a liaison Terminal Agency Coordinator (TAC) between the Denton Police Department and the Crime Records Service of the Texas Department of Public Safety.

* Works with the Denco Area 9-1-1 District to develop and conduct public education programs and seminars as it relates to 9-1-1 usage for both children and adults.

* Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

* High School diploma or GED equivalent

* Minimum of three years prior experience as a Public Safety Dispatcher


* Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job

* Comprehensive knowledge of training principles, procedures, and presentation techniques; researches and assess new training techniques and programs

Conditions of Employment

* Must have a valid Class "C" Driver's License prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class "C" driver's license within 30 days of hire per state law)

* Must pass a drug test, driver's license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check

* Must currently hold or obtain Emergency Medical Dispatch Certification, Basic 9-1-1 Procedures, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification, and NCIC/TCIC Training within one year of hire date

* Must hold Intermediate TCOLE Telecommunicator certification

* Must pass Criticall Assessment Skills Test exam

* Must pass Law Enforcement/Public Safety background investigation, polygraph, psychological exam, and drug screening

* Must be able to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays

* Please note Public Safety Communications employees that are under the age of 36 at the time they are hired will be placed in the Denton Fire Pension Plan.
