Your Specific Responsibilities:

This position works providing dental hygiene services and/or conducting preventative and educational dental health programs. Key custodian for designated areas. Adheres to Information Security Policy and Procedures.

Performs clinical screening of patients both visually and by oral x-ray survey. Performs oral prophylaxis on patients including supragingival and subgingival scaling, polishing and applications of topical fluoride solutions. Applies dental sealants. Records findings and treatment in the patient’s dental record using Eagle Soft software. May expose, X-rays as needed, using proper technique and safety standard.

Provides preventive instruction to patients in proper habits and techniques of self-care, such as proper tooth brushing and the use of dental floss. Provides early preventive instructions to parents of small children.

Promotes dental education by providing oral hygiene and dietary recommendations to patients and their parents; preparing and delivering dental health presentations for in-services, schools and Children’s Dental Health Month activities; distribution of dental education and material; and coordination with other community partners to promote dental education.

Assists other dental staff in maintaining safe, clean and comfortable working environment. Works with staff to assure effective patient flow. Maintains organization of supplies and equipment. Advises supervisor of supply orders in a timely manner. Assists with inventory of supplies and equipment. Utilizes cold sterile and autoclave methods for instruments. Adheres to CDC and state regulations regarding disposal of bloodborne pathogen materials. Will assist with reception duties as needed.

Codes and records Employee Activity Records (EARs). Maintains complete and accurate personnel forms including timesheets and travel vouchers. Maintains licensure as a Dental Hygienist in the State of Florida. Maintains necessary continuing education units (CEUs) as required for licensure. Participates in scheduled clinic team meetings, QA, record audits and general staff meetings and in-service training. Assigned purchasing card responsibilities and adheres to purchasing card policies and procedures. Other duties as assigned, including reporting to a shelter in time of disaster.

  • Skill in performing prophylaxis.
  • Ability in instruct patient in preventive dental techniques.
  • Ability to operate general office equipment.
  • Ability to follow office procedures and practices.
  • Ability to organize and maintain filing systems.
  • Ability to handle telephone calls in a courteous and effective manner.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments and communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Qualifications:

Minimum –

  • Licensure as a Dental Hygienist in accordance with Florida Statue 466
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • CPR Certification
