JOB SUMMARY:

Under broad supervision, provides analysis and/or recommendations on legal issues within the scope and authority of the agency.

JOB DUTIES:

Acts as a liaison or representative between the agency and Department of Law. Performs job responsibilities with minimal supervision.

May supervise and/or direct the work of others.

Acts as a resource to answer questions and evaluates the status of reimbursements or recoupments.

Coordinates and implements due process procedures and procedures for appeals.

Develops, oversees, and implements administrative processes designed to maintain and monitor the legal compliance of department processes.

Drafts amendments to existing contracts and standardized letters and notices related to administrative legal procedures.

Identifies and resolves, or assists in the resolution of, legal problems. Implements administrative processes designed to maintain and monitor the legal compliance of departmental processes and activities.

Participates in the implementation of settlements, agreements, and/or legal judgments within approved guidelines.

Participates in the preparation and coordination of cases prior to and during court trials and administrative hearings.

Prepares grant and contract proposals and administers contracts with funding agencies.

Provides analysis, answers, or recommendations regarding legal, liability and/or risk-management issues.

Provides legal services such as writing articles and drafting new or amended legislation or regulations. Provides research and analysis of legal, policy and environmental issues.

Provides training for other staff.

Represents agency in administrative hearings or as a client to the Department of Law.

Researches and analyzes current statutory and case law affecting the agency and/or programs.

Reviews investigative reports and identifies areas that require further investigation

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Juris Doctorate from an accredited college or university AND license to practice law in the State of Georgia OR eligibility to sit for the next Georgia Bar examination OR reciprocity AND Two years of relevant legal experience OR Two years of experience required at the lower level Attorney 2 (LEP021).
