Primary Purpose

The primary purpose of the Workforce Development Program Coordinator is to support Parkland’s workforce development efforts through the coordination of work observations, academic agreements, student placement assistance, and similar responsibilities.

Minimum Specifications

Education

  • Must have a bachelor’s degree in Healthcare, Business Administration, Nursing, or related field.

Experience

  • Must have two (2) years supporting academic rotation placement, summer internships, or comparable
  • Prefer experience with Project Management or Program Administration with multiple projects or programs
  • Prefer clinical experience in a hospital environment or academic placement

Skills or Special Abilities

  • Must have a good understanding of student internship practices, workforce pipeline job programs, and/or academic rotation workflows in various healthcare disciplines.
  • Must demonstrate excellent critical-thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities with proven project and/or program management skills.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with professional nursing staff, medical staff, allied health, and academic professionals both internally and externally.
  • Must demonstrate excellent communication skills with all levels of internal and external personnel both verbally and in writing.
  • Must be client-focused with a strong emphasis to provide excellent customer service.
  • Must have the ability to build effective working relationships with team members and of both internal and external end users.
  • Must demonstrate patient centered/patient valued behaviors.
  • Must demonstrate time management, project prioritization and organizational skills.
  • Must have working knowledge of Microsoft office products and be able to demonstrate both analytical/statistical skills while providing program updates and reports.

Responsibilities

  1. Serves as the program administrator for one or more Workforce Development programs, primarily the Parkland Academy Career Observation Program and academic student placement. Supports other workforce development programs, including but not limited to summer internships, apprenticeships, workforce pipeline, or other skills training programs.
  2. Serves as the liaison between Parkland Health & Hospital Systems (PHHS) and academic and nonacademic institutions with external students, faculty, or other candidates to process and track their participation through the student placement and/or observation program.
  3. Responsible for staying abreast of industry best practices and advancements, including but not limited to incorporating technology as appropriate into administrative and observation experiences.
  4. Reviews contracts, MOUs, and other required agreements to ensure compliance with internal and external regulations, including tuition reimbursement contracts.
  5. Coordinates all program aspects, communications, and event activities of assigned program(s) to include tracking, reporting, and ensuring compliance with procedures regarding licensing, educational needs, and initial/re-credentialing of students and/or observation candidates.
  6. Responsible for building and maintaining positive relationships with faculty, preceptors, employees, patients, and other academic and nonacademic institutions to ensure that the optimal learning environment is maintained while promoting patient comfort and satisfaction.
  7. Implements best practices within areas of responsibility and evaluates and standardizes procedures to effectively troubleshoot and resolve issues.
  8. Serves as an inter- and intra-departmental resource through committee and/or task force activities. Serves as a member, resource, and/or consultant for the greater healthcare community as needed.

  1. Identifies ways to improve work processes and improve customer satisfaction. Makes recommendations to supervisor, implements, and monitors results as appropriate in support of the overall goals of the department and Parkland.
  2. Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, actively participating in professional organizations, and/or maintaining certification or licensure. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.
  3. Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impact the area. Develops effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with applicable laws, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as needed to ensure proper understanding.
