Tax – People Advisory Services – EY EDGE - Actuarial - Intern

Our People Advisory Services (PAS) and EY EDGE practice is made up of a team of professionals providing services to both US and global clients. EDGE stands for Exceptional Delivery and Growth Engine because this team operates in a technical environment with deep process and service delivery experience that distinguishes EY in the marketplace.

When you join EY EDGE as a PAS Reward Associate Analyst I, you’ll be at the heart of the critical mission to build a better working world by applying your knowledge, skills and experience in assisting clients in meeting their business objectives. You will learn, grow and contribute — building new relationships and discovering the satisfaction that comes with producing high-quality, valued work and advice.

You’ll spend your time working with core audit teams by helping them review company disclosures for defined benefit pension plans and assessing if they comply with accounting standards. You’ll have a real impact from your first day, applying actuarial and/or analytical skills to diverse employee benefits financial modeling, operational/vendor evaluation and compliance matters. You’ll also collect and analyze data, monitor project timelines and document your findings. As part of that, you’ll need to be a critical thinker who is able to take on complex projects and communicate technical knowledge simply and effectively to both clients and team members.

Your key responsibilities

  • Process actuarial census data and help to prepare complex actuarial valuations and related financial disclosures
  • Reviewing annual tax and financial disclosures in connection with required annual audits
  • Assessing financial and compliance risks in retirement and benefit plans
  • Preparing individual benefit calculations for pension programs
  • Preparing annual employee benefit plan filings with the IRS or Department of Labor (DOL)

  • Qualifications
    • Progress toward an undergraduate degree with a concentration in Actuarial Science, Mathematics or Statistics (and pursuing Pension and/or Health)
    • An understanding of the actuarial exam and certification process with a start on the exam process underway (successful completion of one or more actuarial exams preferred), or a commensurate level of continuing education for non-actuarial areas of focus
    • Familiarity with time value of money and interest calculations
    • Experience with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
    • Flexibility and willingness to travel as well as work in excess of standard hours when necessary
    • A driver’s license valid in the U.S.
    • Willingness and ability to learn and work independently with minimal supervision
    • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
