Area Supervisor (226 Days)

Purpose:

Oversee the management of cafeteria food production and service at assigned schools.

Qualifications:

* Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university/college in food service

* Four years experience in food service operations, preferably in multi-unit supervision

* Experience in school food service management, quality assurance, menu planning, catering, marketing and promotions

* Experience in project planning and collaborating with a team to implement projects

* School Nutrition Specialist (SNS) credentials desirable

* Ability to use professional judgment in handling emergency situations in cafeterias

* Interpersonal skills in communication both verbal and written

* Training and presentation skills at all levels

* Computer skills in creating word documents, power point, spreadsheets, etc

Basic Functions:

* Directly supervises 15-20 Cafeteria Supervisors, indirectly supervises 120-150 Food Service Technicians and Food Service Assistants

* Recommends and adjusts staffing to manage school cafeterias kitchen production and service

* Review profit and loss statement for area to achieve department goals

* Review financial and staffing performance of schools in area district quadrant

* Monitor food cost and work with Cafeteria Supervisor to contain food cost to district goals

* Generate disciplinary documentation for employees under their direct and indirect supervision

* Recommend terminations, promotions, demotions and transfers of employees

* Assure HACCP food safety practices are monitor

* Provide leadership to assure consistency and compliance with all policies and procedures

* Monitor and assure compliance in local, state and federal guidelines

* Assess school based departmental needs and make recommendations to department administration to assure quality service to students and staff

* Supervise assigned schools in areas of personnel, operations, facilities, etc

* Observe daily operations and provide training as needed

* Develop and participate in department staff development training program presentations

* Promote professional development at school staff level

* Serve as liaison between the Food Service Department and campus administration

* Attend workshops and seminars in and outside the district to maintain current knowledge of the food service industry

* Verify and approve campus food and supply orders

* Must routinely lift and/or move up to 25 lbs

* Perform all other tasks and duties as assigned

* All federally funded incumbents of this position must comply with time and effort reporting requirements through personnel activity reports or periodic certification, as appropriate

Minimum Salary:

$49,793/annually

Selected individuals for Dallas Independent School District positions will be placed according to compensation guidelines.
