Position Summary: The Certified Nursing Assistant under the direction of a Nurse Manager, Charge Nurse, and/or Staff Nurse is responsible for maintaining patient safety while providing direct patient care under the direction of a Nurse Manager, Charge Nurse or Staff Nurse.

Education: Graduate of a Certified Nursing Assistant Program required.

Licensure/Certification: Certification as Nursing Assistant or Geriatric Aide by Maryland State Board of Nursing. Certain positions require additional licensure. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required.

Experience: Previous experience in clerical or receptionist position, hospital experience or satisfactory completion of a unit secretary training course is preferred. Six months successful experience as a Nursing Assistant in a general hospital preferred. Experience as a student nurse is an acceptable substitute for a Nursing Assistant Class. The student must have successfully completed the Fundamentals of Nursing Care and obtained a Nursing Assistant Certification from the Maryland Board of Nursing.

Skills: Patient hygiene, physical comfort, mobility, monitoring safety, feeding patients, obtaining specimens, obtaining accu-checks, blood pressures, vital signs, height, weight and other delegated tasks as allowed by the Maryland Nurse Practice Act.

May be required to work additional shifts or varying hours to meet the operational needs of the department.
