The Virginia Department of Health, Office of Drinking Water (ODW) is recruiting for a Public Health Engineering Regional Director to manage the Culpeper Field Office (CFO), located in Culpeper, Virginia. This position directs, supervises and manages the day to day operations and engineering activities of the office to include regulatory compliance, engineering technical assistance, planning, fiscal, directing activities and projects to ensure the work of the field office complies with federal, state, and agency regulations. Responsible for the implementation of primacy and regulations to all waterworks in the CFO region. Provides technical expertise on committees charged with revising the Waterworks Regulations and serves as lead representative of ODW by responding to public inquiries, legislators, local, state and federal officials; serves as CFO emergency coordinator and liaison with state EMS and emergency preparedness and response staff. In addition to demonstrated experience performing these duties, the ideal candidate must have excellent communication and leadership skills, experience in managing a complex engineering/public health program, and establishing technical requirements and tracking progress toward accomplishments.

Minimum Qualifications

The successful applicant will have demonstrated: project management and supervisory experience, experience or extensive knowledge of sanitary engineering pertaining to drinking water. The ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in technical writing; address/conduct meetings and hearings; and to read, interpret, and independently apply laws, regulations and policies.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor of Science degree in Civil, Sanitary, Environmental or Chemical Engineer from an accredited college/university, supplemented by a Master of Science or Engineering degree in Engineering or equivalent training and experience is strongly preferred. A license as a Professional Engineer (PE) in Virginia is required.
