# # POSITION SUMMARY Pharmacy Technicians assist the department in performing clerical, distributive, and technical functions within the pharmacy with emphasis on accurate prescription processing, product knowledge, handling of currency, positive customer relations, and maintaining shelf stock to ensure maximum product availability and sales. These individuals must continually strive to provide a professional environment for all customers while supporting the Pharmacy Department. Works under direct supervision of the department pharmacists. Pharmacy Technicians work in cooperation with patients, physicians, nursing staff, hospital pharmacy services, # supportive personnel as well as managed care (third party) coordinators. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience: High School Diploma is required. Completion of a Certified Pharmacy Technician course is preferred.# Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Windows as well as office equipment (calculator, cash register, fax machine) is desirable. Successful completion of the data entry, and pharmacy nomenclature standards as administered by Cuyuna Regional Medical Center Human Resources staff. License/Certificates: Registration with the Minnesota State Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician#is required. Must successfully complete the certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) course or possess certification within two years of hire.# Maintain current MN driver#s license. Special Skills and Aptitudes: Ability to handle confidential information discreetly and appropriately. Effective interpersonal relationship skills including good listening and communication skills. Ability to adjust to stressful situations with confidence and good judgment. Successful completion of data entry, healthcare associate and pharmacy technician standard administered by Cuyuna Regional Medical Center Human Resources staff. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES Inputs patient demographics, insurance and prescription data into the computer. Maintains knowledge of insurance plans, insurance parameters, and can efficiently process this information. Familiar with pharmaceutical products including: names (Brand # Generic), dosage forms, and common uses. Calculates prescription doses/quantities and if necessary converts units of measure. Competence in maintaining the computerized drug inventory file: demonstrates the ability to add and adjust products. Sends and received refill authorizations and prior authorizations. Ensures confidentiality of records. Competent in the function and use of the pharmacy computer system. Follows proper currency handling and cash register procedures. Maintains familiarity with all product, product location and bottle location. Properly greets and thanks customers. Provides prompt and courteous service. Assists customers with products location, questions and refers to Pharmacist as necessary. Fills, rotates and straightens shelf stock. Verifies invoices with product received and completes necessary steps for discrepancies.# Follows all store and departments policies and procedures. Assists in ordering. Maintains Board of Pharmacy regulations. Demonstrates poise and ability in emergency situations. Practices and maintains high ethical standards including resident/patient confidentiality. In absence of Delivery Driver/Clerk, drives from Medical Center to patient residences or places of business. In absence of Delivery Driver/Clerk, performs delivery of prescription orders which includes: obtaining appropriate signatures for auditing and collecting monetary payments. Demonstrate Standards of Excellence when other duties are assigned.
