Recreation Assistant (Tennis Center)

The City of Coronado is seeking candidates for the position of Recreation Assistant at the Coronado Tennis Center, under the Recreation and Golf Services Department.

Under immediate supervision, to provide general assistance and support to assigned recreation program and activities; to set up and issue equipment for recreational activities; to assist in providing on-site supervision of recreation program and activity participants; to perform routine office and clerical work; and to perform a variety of tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.

This is a part-time, temporary (not to exceed 1,000 hours in a fiscal year) position that does not include benefits. The expected schedule for the position will require availability during mornings and afternoons between 8:00 AM - 7:00 PM.

Key Responsibilities

The following tasks are typical for positions in this classification. Any single position may not perform all of these tasks and/or may perform similar related tasks not listed here:

1. Provide general assistance within an assigned recreation programs including sports, special events, after school programs, day camps, arts and crafts, or other recreation programs.

2. Provide onsite supervision to program participants in specific areas; lead program participants in recreation activities in assigned areas.

3. Prepare recreational facilities for use; ensure that appropriate equipment and supplies are available for classes and events; set up and take down equipment.

4. Handle money transactions and issue receipts for fees and various recreation services

5. Greet and assist the general public; provide information; respond to, resolve or direct inquiries and complaints to appropriate staff.

6. Perform a variety of general and routine administrative tasks in support of recreation programs; operate office equipment to perform tasks including computers and supporting software applications, copiers, fax machines, telephones and cash registers.

7. Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

Minimum Requirements

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience: No experience is required. A tennis background and/or knowledge is preferred, but not required.

Education/Training: Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.

Licenses and Certificates: Designated positions require the possession, or ability to obtain, a Class B or C driver's license with a safe driving record. Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid first aid certificate. Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid CPR certificate.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS The physical demands herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Mobility: Incumbents are required to participate in assigned community center tasks which may include moderate to heavy lifting; standing, walking or running for prolonged periods of time; stooping, kneeling, and crawling; operate motorized vehicles and equipment. Vision: Vision sufficient to read printed documents, observe behavior of community center participants and operate assigned equipment. Environment: Incumbents may be exposed to inclement weather conditions, may work at indoor or outdoor recreational facilities and may travel from site to site. Other Factors: Incumbents may be required to work extended hours including evenings and weekends.

EXAMINATION PROCESS
