Basic Function

The Parks Operations Technician is responsible for maintenance and small-scale construction projects. This employee is also responsible for maintaining and repairing small gas operated equipment used by the Department. This position requires use of manual and electric tools and equipment and manipulation of various raw materials, like wood, steel and aluminum. This position also requires working special events and monitoring pavilion rentals. The position will also be responsible for irrigation and interactive water feature maintenance and repairs. Regular attendance is an essential job function and employment duties are routinely performed Tuesday-Saturday, with additional overtime hours as needed.

Essential Job Functions

* Ensure the proper maintenance of small power tools and equipment, including sharpening and changing blades for small riding lawn mowers.

* Perform small-scale construction tasks as requested.

* Carry out assignments using various manual and power tools and equipment, including power saws, cutting torch, drill press and the like, while obeying all safety measures.

* Operate and maintain assorted lawn care equipment, such as weed eaters and backpack blowers.

* Assists with special events and monitors pavilion rental activities.

* Assists with the repair and maintenance of Departmental irrigation systems and interactive water features.

* Perform other related duties and tasks as requested, required, or instructed.

Minimum Requirements

The Parks Operations Technician must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent and at least one (1) year of relevant experience. Park Operations Technician is preferred to have either a current TCEQ Irrigation Tech License or be a Licensed Irrigator, and if not, will be required to achieve one or the other within six (6) months of hire date. Also, the Parks Operations Technician is preferred to be a current NSPF Certified Pool Operator, and if not, will be required to achieve within six (6) months of hire date. State of Texas driver's license with a good driving record is required.

Skills/Abilities

The Parks Operations Technician must have the following skills and abilities to perform the job successfully: general lawn care knowledge, including how to operate lawn care equipment, and ability to perform general lawn care in different conditions; ability to assess and repair broken and malfunctioning electric tools and gas powered small equipment; ability to use power equipment to complete small-scale construction projects; skills and ability to repair and maintain irrigation systems and interactive water features and miscellaneous technical skills to perform any other tasks as requested.
