Job Title: Technology Aide

Supervisor: Reports to Building Principal

Terms of Employment: 185 Days

Job Summary

The Technology Aide is responsible for assisting students, teachers, and administrative staff with technology-related projects. The Technology Aide will organize and maintain the school computer labs; provide students with intensified learning experiences utilizing educational software to reinforce instruction in specified academic areas. This person will also tutor, train, and assist students in computerized learning situations while exercising proper procedures and following ethical and technology standards. The technology aide will also assist in the maintenance of the school webpage and in the development of publications.

Essential Duties

* Assist students, teachers, and administrative staff with developing newsletters, brochures, calendars, and other technology-related projects.

* Train and assist students with operating a computer, peripheral devices and other technology equipment including but not limited to digital cameras, flip cameras, and webcams.

* Assist teachers in finding programs/applications to support their student(s) need(s).

* Assist with technological instruction of standards.

* Select appropriate educational software to reinforce instruction to individual and small groups of students.

* Teach and instruct students using educational software, such as Headsprout and Compass Learning.

* Check programs, review and learn new programs (including special curriculum referenced materials).

* Prepare and maintain records of students participating in computerized instructional support.

* Organize and maintain a school computer lab to ensure equipment and materials remain in good operational condition.

* Troubleshoot problems with computers and other technology equipment; may independently solve minor problems or seek assistance from appropriate technical professional.

* Arrange for maintenance of equipment as necessary.

* Assists users with full utilization of available hardware and software.

Other Duties

Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Principal or other appropriate administrator.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required)

Candidate must meet No Child Left Behind (NCLB) requirements for a paraprofessional, which includes the Parapro Test, 60 College credit hours or hold an Associates degree.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities of this j oh include the following:

* Computer experience with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet Explorer, developing web pages and Outlook.

* Basic understanding and working knowledge of computer hardware and its operation.

* Good interpersonal, communication, and computer skills.

* Communicate effectively with people.

* Experience working with children, individually and in groups.

* Classroom management techniques.

* Basic understanding of instructional methods and techniques.

* Experience with educational software, such as Headsprout and Compass Learning, preferred.

* The ability to problem solve, trouble shoot, and multi-task.

* Demonstration of proficiencies required.

* Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Duties will include attending to students' behavioral, physical or sanitation/hygiene needs.

Additional physical requirements include the following:

* Sufficiently mobile to ensure the safety of students

* Manual dexterity for the purpose of using a telephone and data entry

* Read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids

* Hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone

* Speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in person and on the telephone

Work Environment

Duties may be conducted in work-related community settings and/or occasionally performed on study trips away from school.

Pay Grade: 17-18
