Terms of Employment: 246 days

Job Summary: Provide coordination and leadership for the Therapeutic Learning Center

Essential Duties

* Serve as the program administrator for the Therapeutic Learning Center.

* Coordinate programs for students with disabilities consistent with federal, state, and local standards, laws, regulations, and guidelines.

* Provide support services and technical assistance to staff relative to developing and implementing effective programs for students with disabilities.

* Collaborate with teachers and district personnel in developing, implementing, and evaluating the programs.

* Plan and conduct staff meetings.

* Coordinate and conduct staff development activities for teachers, principals, parents and other district personnel.

* Assist teachers in developing appropriate instruction for students with disabilities utilizing best practices and teaching methods, classroom management, curriculum standards, instructional material, and other areas consistent with district initiatives and instructional models.

* Consult with public and private agencies, organizations and professional personnel in securing and providing educational and related services for students with disabilities.

* Coordinate and conduct district parent involvement initiatives and training for parents of children with disabilities.

* Carry out administrative tasks and responsibilities.

* Create a master schedule reflective of the therapeutic and academic supports offered.

* Monitor, analyze, and evaluate individual student achievement results; evaluate and appraise the effectiveness of academic and therapeutic programs.

* Work closely with district staff and teachers in developing and/or monitoring program goals.

* Collaborate with school- and district-level personnel in curriculum planning, development, and implementation.

* Maintain budget records and follow district procedures to ensure payment of invoices.

* Supervise and evaluate professional staff and support staff.

* Supervise students.

* Facilitate communication between home and school concerning school programs and student progress.

* Facilitate communication with base schools regarding student transition and progress.

* Participate in on-going professional development by attending workshops, lectures, and institutes to enhance job performance.

Other Duties

Carry out other tasks and responsibilities as assigned.

Job Specifications

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required)

* Valid South Carolina Teaching Certificate

* Principal or Supervisor Certification

* Special Education Certification preferred

* Master's degree from an accredited university

* Minimum 5 years successful teaching experience

* Administrative experience preferred

* Experience in working with programs for children with disabilities

* Demonstrates proficiency in written and spoken interpersonal communication skills

* Demonstrates proficiency in the use of technology

* Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable

* Physically capable of frequently lifting or moving up to 40 pounds;

* Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus;

* Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time;

* Manual dexterity for the purpose of using a telephone and data entry;

* Read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids;

* Hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone; and

* Speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in person and on the telephone.
