About the Position:

The Engineering Division is located within the New England District (NAE) Headquarters. The division produces all technical projects for the District. Projects developed by NAE's design staff are as diverse as our program and support civil works, military works, and HTRW projects. Projects include: inspection, repair/maintenance of 32 flood control dams, 3 hurricane barriers, and the Cape Cod Canal; including maintenance and improvements to the harbors and rivers.

Responsibilities

* Works under the general supervision of the Section Chief and under the guidance of the Team Leader who provides support through coaching, facilitating, and mentoring, and conveys general policy and direction.

* Section chief also provides instructions, general outline objectives, and problems expected to be encountered.

* Incumbent is relied upon to independently carry out assignments in accordance with guides, precedents, and established concepts and methods.

* Confers with supervisor or team leader on significant deviation from established guides or when new criteria or new techniques are used or required.

* Completed work is reviewed for technical adequacy, conformance with requirements stated at the time of assignments, and for soundness of judgment, criteria, policy, and instructions.

Travel Required

25% or less - Overnight business travel required at least 5% of the time.

* This position requires the favorable completion of a basic background investigation before entering position.

* This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.

* This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a valid, State-issued motor vehicles driver's license within 30 days of employment.

* This position requires occasional working outdoors in conditions involving moderate exposure to rain and cold/hot weather.

* This position involves occasional exposures at construction sites and/or survey sites to moderate risks and discomforts, such as:

* dust, strong odors, or fumes from fuels, chemicals, or engine exhaust; high levels of noise and vibration, dust, grease, electrical hazards, uncovered moving parts of machinery.

* This position requires Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and clothing (such as hard hats, protective footwear, etc) to be worn at specified work locations.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Education and/ or Experience Required:

GS-07:

One year of specialized experience includes meeting two of the three following: 1) have a working knowledge of hydrographic and/or topographic surveying; 2) assist with the creation and review of maps; and 3) perform administrative tasks to include but not limited to: database management, and maintaining/updating inventory. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

OR

Education: One full year (i.e 18 semester hours) of graduate level education leading to such a degree in Civil Engineering, or related field of study. (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts for verification).

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.

GS-08:

One year of specialized experience includes meeting two of the four following: 1) have knowledge of hydrographic and/or topographic surveying; 2) create and/or produce maps; 3) develop cost estimates for hydrographic and/or topographic surveying; and 4) perform administrative tasks to include, but not limited to: database management, and maintaining/updating inventory. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

OR

Education: One and a half years (i.e 27 semester hours) of graduate level education leading to such a degree in Civil Engineering, or related field of study. (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts for verification).

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.
