Providence is calling a Pharmacy Technician (Pharmacy, Variable, 0.0 FTE, on-call/supplemental) to Providence Mount Carmel Hospital in Colville, Washington. In this position you will:

  • Float between Providence Mount Carmel Hospital in Colville, WA and Providence St. Joseph's Hospital in Chewelah, WA.
  • Support the Performance Improvement process.
  • Follow and support hospital policies. Follows the principles and requirements outlined in the Commitments and Compliance Integrity Program Employee Handbook and any other organizational or departmental materials related to compliance with laws and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain a safe environment for staff, patients, and visitors.
  • Patient-Care Positions: Consider individual needs in communication with, assessment of, and treatment of patients and staff, including ethical, cultural, psychosocial, religious, and age-specific aspects to include infant through the elderly.
  • Support patient rights and the organization’s code of ethical behavior.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is required for all positions. Failure to meet this standard can result on progressive discipline up to and including termination.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state laws and JCAHO standards.
  • Transcribe IV orders to IV profiles, prepares labels, calculates dosages, and mixes IV Therapy products under the immediate supervision of a pharmacist; pays close attention to the age specific needs of each individual patient.
  • Order and maintain inventory of IV Therapy solutions, administration sets, other IV supplies, Pharmacy supplies, and pharmaceuticals.
  • Prepare Emergency Depart. outpatient night stock prescriptions under the immediate supervision of the pharmacist.
  • Fill unit dose cassette exchange cart under the immediate supervision of the Pharmacist.
  • Process outpatient prescriptions paying close attention to the age of the patient and the different age specific needs of that patient and under the immediate supervision of the pharmacist.
  • Type prescription labels, enters appropriate information on patient prescription files, and completes necessary billing forms.
  • Handle collection of physician orders, requisitions, medication and equipment from the nursing units and delivery of medication, stock supplies and equipment to the nursing units, pharmacy, or other areas of the hospital.
  • Complete daily patient billing, records patient charges or credits, processes requisitions, checks medication and supply stock, and receives and prices pharmaceuticals.
  • Process purchase orders, invoices, credit memos, requisitions, drug returns, drug outdates, and updates medication profiles.
  • Order medications and supplies, repackages oral dosage forms into unit dose form, obtains medications from other pharmacies.
  • Retrieve, clean, and deliver equipment to the nursing units as needed.
  • Maintain assigned work areas and equipment in clean and orderly conditions.
  • Handle non-professional phone calls:
  • From physician's office authorizing refills providing no changes in the prescription are involved.
  • Concerning price information.
  • Regarding the availability of goods and services - these might require transferring the call to another person.
  • Dealing with the ordering of drugs and supplies from wholesalers and distributors.
  • From in-house personnel concerning pharmaceuticals or supplies availability.
  • Handle reconstitution of oral liquid or IV injection medications that require no calculation. The accuracy is to be checked and initialed by the Pharmacist.

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • H.S. Diploma or GED
  • Certification as a Pharmacy Technician with the State of Washington Board of Pharmacy.
