Job Summary:

This position coordinates a hospital-wide safety program designed to promote and enforce safe work practices, promote reduction of employee accidents and worker's compensation claims, and promote compliance with licensing and regulatory agencies.

Evaluates Hazardous Waste storage areas for compliance at least monthly.

Assists Mgr-Safety in the development, implementation, monitoring, and management of the Safety programs, policies, and procedures.

Participates in the development and implementation of training programs in the areas of safety and environment of care throughout the Palmetto Health System. Educate and raise team member's awareness of the Safety programs, policies, procedures, guidelines and plans.

Performs environment of care tracers on assigned campuses to evaluate the organization's procedures, facilities, and equipment to identify unsafe conditions that need improvement; Conducts indoor air quality assessments and investigations.

Participates Environment of Care committee meetings for each campus and Executive Safety for the system. Coordinating meeting agendas, reports and presentations. Attends other meeting as appropriate to represent Safety.

Assists in ensuring that Joint Commission, CMS, DHEC and other Federal, State and Local regulations/guidelines are implemented across the system to maintain compliance for environment of care and safety

Compiles data and submits quarterly hazardous waste DHEC reports.

Participates in construction meetings and PRCA creation and review.

Prepares monthly, quarterly and annual reports and evaluations for presentation to the Environment of Care Committee, Executive Safety, appropriate Regulatory Agencies, Administration and Governing Board as required.

Responsible for the maintenance of safety and accident records.

Actively participates in continuing education to maintain and enhance competency.


Education: Associates degree is required.

Experience: Three (3) years of Safety experience required. Related experience in a hospital setting is preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Certified Healthcare Safety Professional, Certified Industrial Hygienist, or Certified Safety and Health Professional preferred.
