Reviews and evaluates assigned complaints to determines the scope of complaints and conducts inquiries and/or investigations in accordance with BHFL guidelines and determines compliance with applicable regulations.

Completes detailed, concise and accurate reports of visit, conducts exit interviews and advises persons in charge of the activity or service of the need to modify those conditions if conditions do not meet standards. Assists with triaging complaints and review of accident/incident reports in accordance with BHFL protocols. Participates with members of other program areas in inspections or assists in decisions such as recommendations for penalties or exception requests, assists in the training of BHFL personnel, participates in consultations and compliance assistance meetings and assists with quality improvement in inspections/ investigations when deemed appropriate.

Performs other duties as necessary, including but not limited to: participates in preparing for hearings and trials; presents evidence in hearings and trials; participates in disaster preparedness and response, and is designated an essential employee, subject to duty and/or call on a 24-hour basis during an emergency.

Minimum and Additional Requirements:

State Minimum Requirements: Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing. Some positions require certification as a generalist in a related specialty area by the American Nurses Association (ANA). Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and related nursing experience.

Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

Agency Additional Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in nursing with two (2) years' experience as a registered nurse (RN) in a health care setting; or an Associate's degree or diploma in nursing with three (2) years' experience as an RN in a healthcare setting ; should possess good assessment skills; extensive organizational skills; good oral and written communication skills; effective interpersonal and customer service skills; have a working knowledge of and be proficiently experienced in using applicable computer software programs as well as having a basic understanding of database systems; must possess a valid SC driver's license; travel up to four (4) hours in duration and distances of up to 400 miles (round trip) 4-5 days per week will be required and overnight travel may be required; must be able to lift and carry 20 lbs. to a distance and/or height of up to 20 feet; and must be able to bend, stoop and climb as part of the inspection process.

Additional Comments:DRIVING RECORD: If this position requires the applicant to possess a valid driver's license to operate a state vehicle or personal vehicle, any applicant being considered in the final stages of selection for the position will be required to provide a certified copy of a 10-year driving record.
