The Expert Instrument Specialist conducts preventative maintenance and calibration of instruments and equipment at regular intervals; coordinates proper installation and qualification of new instruments; engages in troubleshooting and repair of equipment including requalification. Maintains documentation for instruments and equipment including revising and developing SOPs and supports documentation development for training records of staff.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

* Develops and maintains preventative maintenance (PM) and calibration schedule and documentation.

* Performs selected calibration operations or coordinates and follows through on calibration operations performed by specialists, depending on complexity of the instrument or equipment.

* Coordinates the installation, operation, and performance qualifications (IOPQ) for new instruments.

* Troubleshoots and repairs instruments, including coordination of vendor calls, with proper documentation and follow-through to return instrument to active service with proper requalification.

* Assists in writing and developing standard operating procedures (SOPs) associated with instrumentation and equipment. Revises SOPs as necessary and directed.

* Assist in training technical staff in instrument operations, SOPs, and proper documentation associated with instruments and equipment.

* Coordinates qualification of instrument operators in support of individual training records.

* Works with service engineer to ensure prompt instrumentation repair.

* Maintains user schedule or calendar for high-use instrumentation as needed.

* Reviews, develops and updates Metrology standards.

* Performs other related duties as required and directed.

Minimum Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in relevant field such as chemistry, biochemistry, biology, chemical engineering, pharmaceutical sciences, or other directly related field or degree with comparable coursework in the above areas and two years of experience in metrology or related area. A high school diploma with six (6) years of directly related experience may be substituted.

* Familiarity and/or experience in a laboratory setting and/or metrology is preferred.

* Chromatographic experience in a GLP environment.

* Knowledge of LC-MS/MS is also a preferred qualification.
