Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer

Job Purpose:

Mechanical Design and Development of Data Center Storage/Server Enclosures, including thermal analysis, vibration, compliance and packaging. In addition, this position will involve the design and commissioning of test equipment for in-house and worldwide manufacturing locations.

In this role you will be part of a cross-functional team of electrical, mechanical, firmware, product and test engineering, supplier partners, direct and contract manufacturing and operations. This role will be involved in all aspects of the product lifecycle from concept-to-EOL.

Nature of Duties:

* Mechanical design for sheet metal enclosures, plastics and die casting

* Thermal design and analysis, shock and vibration, electromagnetic interference mitigation, tolerance analysis, ESD, Safety and acoustics.

* Electronic PCBA and Systems test equipment interfaces for volume manufacturing

* Work with contract and direct manufacturing teams

* Work with Customers and Sales Organizations

* Drive best practices across the organization and develop early-career engineering staff

* Additional responsibilities include new product concept development, organizing and leading design reviews, accountable for schedule development and execution on projects, product sustaining, and work with international suppliers and manufacturing locations.

Education and Experience:

* BSME or equivalent degree

* 12 years product development experience in computing, storage or related fields.

* Expert working knowledge of CAD systems (SolidWorks preferred) required and experience in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and finite element analysis (FEA) are highly desirable.

* Strong experience in structural, vibrational, thermal and acoustic modeling and problem resolution.

* Familiar with test instrumentation such as air flow and thermal test equipment, DVM, oscilloscopes, power analyzers, structural dynamic analyzers, and accelerometers.

* Experience in thermal characterization using mechanical analogs and development of enclosure thermal algorithms.

* Experience in product compliance certification

* Proficient in writing part and assembly test plans and qualification reports

* Experience in successfully managing development projects from design to production.

* Experience in fabricating prototypes. Basic sheet metal and machining experience.

* Solid understanding of PCBA manufacturing and test technologies and methodologies.

* Experience in the design and build of test fixtures for development lab and manufacturing.
