As an Electrical Engineer in the Wind Tunnel Test Branch, you will be supporting test facility operations at NASA Glenn Research Center including the 10x10 Supersonic Wind Tunnel (SWT), 8x6 SWT, 9x15 Low Speed Wind Tunnel (LSWT) and Propulsion Systems Laboratory test facilities. The work performed supports the Center's Aeropropulsion mission to test aircraft/engine components and systems supporting research in wind tunnel testing, propulsion, acoustics and engine icing.

This a developmental position at the GS-9 and GS-11, with promotion potential to the GS-13.

At the GS-9, you will:

* Execute the assigned experimental programs conducted in GRC Wind Tunnel and Propulsion Facilities.

* Serve as a technical electrical engineering specialist in the test, checkout, and readiness of systems or equipment that involve new concepts and new and varied problems to be solved.

* Assist in the development of unique or leading-edge technology, electrical systems, or equipment to meet specific mission requirements.

* Assists in the investigation of test discrepancies, anomalies, and failure of power system components and subsystems.

* Develops knowledge of the electrical engineering field of specialty and applies specialized technical knowledge to recommend far-reaching improvements to processes such as construction, production, manufacturing, regulatory review, or compliance enforcement.

At the GS-11, you will:

* Assist in guiding activities of a team of professionals and technicians assigned or contributing to the test program.

* Serve as an advisor to manufacturers, engineers, management, related organizations, or contractor personnel, giving authoritative advice relative to testing and evaluation.

* Evaluate design requirements and limitations of an uncertain nature, under which systems/equipment such as wind tunnel/propulsion/power or measurement and instrumentation systems must operate.

* Serve as an experienced engineer in coordinating and integrating the planning, programming, development, oversight, scheduling, management of resources for multi-phase projects or categories of equipment or devices that incorporate the latest state-of-the-art advances.

This position is included in the bargaining unit.

Salary will be set at Step 1 of the appropriate grade level of General Schedule unless Highest Previous Rate applies.

Degrees in engineering technology are not considered to be qualifying for this position.

The degree must have been received in the year of, or any year subsequent to the original date of

Additional Qualifications for the GS-9:

1. Have one year of professional, directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level in the Federal service which includes one or more of the following: experience with experimental test methods and data analysis; or ability to plan and test components and systems; or experience with electrical and electronic systems used in support of wind tunnel, propulsion, acoustic and engine icing testing.


2. Completed all requirements for a master's or equivalent graduate degree in an appropriate field.


3. Completed 2 full academic years of graduate education in an appropriate field.


4. Have an equivalent combination of experience and graduate study as discussed in 1, 2 and 3 above.

Additional Qualifications for the GS-11:

1. Have one year of professional, directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 level in the Federal service which includes knowledge and understanding in one or more of the following areas: Design and development of electrical and electronic systems used in support of wind tunnel, propulsion, acoustic and engine icing testing; or design and development of analog/digital circuitry, advanced instrumentation, control systems, data systems, circuit boards, processors, chips or electronic equipment; or demonstrated proficiency with electrical engineering concepts, principles and methods to test aircraft/engine components and systems.


2. Completed all requirements for a doctoral degree (i.e., Ph.D. or equivalent) in an appropriate field.


3. Completed 3 full academic years of graduate education in an appropriate field.


4. Have an equivalent combination of experience and graduate education as discussed in 1, 2 and 3 above.


Required college majors for applicants qualifying on the basis of undergraduate or graduate education only:

Aeronautical Engineering, Aeronautics, Aerospace Engineering, Astronautical Engineering, Astronautics, Astronomy, Astrophysics, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering (except power), Electronics Engineering, Applied Mechanics, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Nuclear Engineering, Nuclear Engineering Physics, Oceanography, Optical Engineering. Other majors will qualify if the major includes or is supplemented as follows: Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics (Pure or Applied), Physics, Applied Physics, Engineering Physics (or other related field), if includes or is supplemented by two courses in solid state physics, materials, optics, statics and dynamics, electricity and electronics, electron optics, kinetic theory of gases, electromagnetic propagation or radiation, semiconductors, vibration, high vacuum theory, information theory or heat transfer.

ABET accreditation requirement applies to foreign education. Applicants who have completed part or all of their education outside the U.S. must have their foreign education evaluated by an accredited organization to ensure that the foreign education is comparable to the education received in accredited educational institutions in the U.S. If selected, a written evaluation of any foreign education must be provided to the Human Resources official making the offer. Please indicate in your resume that you have had your foreign education formally evaluated. Failure to provide this evaluation will result in your being found unqualified for the position.
