Community Engagement

The Associate Director of Events and Community Engagement will work across the University and the local community to ensure integration of events and community engagement activities to serve CGU's mission and objectives. He/she will manage multiple projects simultaneously and build strong relationships throughout diverse internal, external and community groups.


Events Management

* Facilitate, coordinate and manage the annual campus-wide events calendar, providing strategic planning guidance and leadership to schools and campus representatives.

* Produce all Advancement office and high-level campus events; high-level events can be annual and one-time events for which assistance and participation is requested by the President, Deans, Directors and other campus leadership.

* Lead Advancement efforts for special events recognizing community members and donors.

* Execute campus events by collaborating with internal and external partners, developing project plans, managing budgets, tracking metrics and assessing progress and results.

* Establish campus-wide protocols that assure high profile, high-impact events, keynote speaker engagements, special events hosted by the University are executed at the highest level.

* Produce event sponsorship guidelines and packages in line with market rates and IRS guidelines.

* Draft event template invitations and marketing content for campus representatives to utilize.

* Develop and send post-event surveys. Analyze key metrics and survey result trends and make recommendations when appropriate.

* Assess effectiveness of event outreach and adjust marketing schedule and copy to increase event attendance.

* Coordinate design, production and distribution of event promotional materials, including internet or web materials, press releases, brochures, flyers, signage, A/V presentations, displays, exhibits, etc.

Community Engagement & Development

* Proactively build local community networks and identify community partners in support of CGU's events programming.

* Plan and participate in event sponsorship solicitations and set fundraising goals.

* Recruit student ambassadors to devote their time to support Advancement's activities. Ambassadors will assist with events, presentation meetings and special occasions for the purpose of elevating student visibility in regard to the interests of the University.

* Develop and research methods and strategies to effectively engage alumni, donors and the community to support CGU in meaningful ways on campus.

* Perform other duties as assigned in support of CGU's mission.

* Experience managing volunteer groups and leading/coordinating teams.

* Excellent organizational abilities appropriate to effective calendar management and student and/or volunteer scheduling.

* Sound judgment and effective decision-making and problem resolution skills.

* Ability to work professionally under pressure and under tight deadlines; ensuring excellent customer service support.

* Skill and ability to organize, plan and implement special events in diverse settings for varied audiences with various purposes.


A bachelor's degree preferred. Additional education may substitute for experience, or any combination of education and experience that provides the required skills and ability. A minimum of six years in events planning and/or relevant experience. Experience managing volunteers and building community relations and partnerships is required. Fundraising experience is desirable. Must possess a valid California driver's license and meet CGU's authorized driver's requirements. Must be able to travel to meet with a wide variety of university constituents. Evening and weekend hours are required.
