General Description

This position assumes the administrative authority, responsibility and accountability of directing the activities and programs of the facility. The administrator is responsible for the day-to-day operations including policies and procedures in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern LTC facilities to assure the highest degree of quality care can be provided to our residents at all times.

The administrator provides leadership that creates an atmosphere of mutual respect and teamwork.

Essential Functions:

* Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct the facilities daily operations.

* Ensure that public information describing the services provided in the facility is accurate and fully descriptive.

* Participate in facility surveys made by authorized government agencies.

* Review and develop a plan of correction for deficiencies noted during survey inspections and provide a written copy of such plan to the governing board.

* Evaluate and implement recommendations from the facility's committees as necessary.

* Recruitment and selection of competent department director's and meet with them on a regularly scheduled basis to assist in eliminating and correcting problem areas, and improve service.

* Serve as liaison to the governing board, medical staff, and other professional and supervisory staff.

* Authorize the purchase of major equipment/supplies in accordance with established purchasing policies and procedures.

* Prepare a budget for approval by the governing board and allocate the resources to carry out programs and activities of the facility.

* Ensure that all residents receive care in a manner and in an environment that maintains or enhances their quality of life without abridging the safety and rights of other residents.


* Must have advanced training in hospital or long-term care administration.

* Must be knowledgeable of reimbursement regulations and nursing practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines pertaining to long term care administration.

* Must possess a high degree of competency in communication skills conflict resolution, human resource management and financial management.

* Must possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing practices.

* There are no special abilities necessary to performing this capacity, but the administrator must possess the level of mobility to enable touring the facility which will require prolonged periods of standing, walking, and climbing stairs. Normal visual acuity, clarity of speech and conversation level hearing ability is essential.
