Purchasing Manager

Come grow with Briess! We are looking for a Purchasing / Materials Manager to purchase items based on analysis of raw inventory demand, establishing metrics and best-practices for an evolving Materials Resource Planning (MRP) environment.

Specific Responsibilities include:

1. Responsible for determining overall barley inventory via input from the Sales plan, varietal usage and inventories.

2. Responsible for establishing and maintaining the demand planning tools necessary in determining raw grain and other raw inventory levels.

3. Provide input and document the analysis into the amount of barley Briess will contract with growers. Works with the Wyoming/ND Product Procurement team in establishing procurement levels.

4. Determine what level of inventory of raw grain to keep on hand vs. spot-buy.

5. Determine amount of finished goods to keep in stock.

6. Negotiate raw material purchase agreements, develop and maintain vendor relationships and demonstrate cost management in procured raw materials.

7. Manages the purchase of services and supplies necessary for operation of the organization.

8. Develops and recommends to senior management purchasing policies for the organization.

9. Manages Purchasing Specialists.

10. Participates on cross-functional teams for the continuous improvement of methods and processes.

11. Coordinates the maintenance of records of purchases, delivery dates, vendors, costs and other resources.

12. Adhere to all government and company safety, sanitation and GMP policies and regulations.


Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of purchasing and demand planning experience required, or equivalent combination of education or experience. Individual must have a strong analytical background. Must have ability to coach/mentor others, along with a change management style. Strong PC skills (including Microsoft Excel, ERP experience) is required. Experience in Food Manufacturing or other Process Industries is highly preferred.
