Environmental, Health & Safety Manager

Come grow with Briess! We are looking for an individual that will be responsible for directing and providing health and safety program oversight to all Briess locations and employees. The position oversees development and implementation of behavior-based safety practices, audits, functions for health and safety procedure implementation, ensures compliance with company, OSHA, and vendor safety requirements, and conducts root-cause analysis of health and safety incidents. This position will be responsible for Environmental oversite at all locations.

Job Duties:

Manages, implements, and maintains required EHS operational processes to ensure company and employee awareness.

Manage and foster the growth of health and safety staff (direct and indirect) reports.

Provides leadership training and knowledge transfer to staff members and teams as necessary.

Oversees development and implementation of behavior-based safety practices.

Create, manage and review site specific health and safety plans.

Manage health and safety resources and related departmental budgets.

Review subcontractor safety programs; ensure that subcontractor programs are compliant with corporate, OSHA, and Briess policies.

Responsible for environmental compliance programs to ensure permits are maintained, requirements and conditions are met at site.

Work closely with the Engineering team to develop, review, and oversee storm water, wastewater, solid waste, and air quality management programs to support permitting, operations, and when needed, re-permitting actions.

Establishes, maintains, and communicates program metrics related to injuries and incidents

Coordinate with technical team and engineering consultants to ensure that environmental and permitting considerations are adequately addressed during engineering and design.

Maintains awareness of regulatory changes and disseminates safety related bulletins, technical changes and literature to work site personnel.

Coordinate and assist in employee wellness programs.

Coordinate and lead “green initiatives” for Briess, including the WI DNR Green Tier program. Work with Sales & Marketing for effective communication of programs.

Is responsible for adhering to all rules, regulations, policies, programs and related Quality Management System including SQF, HACCP and GMP to ensure safety and quality of products.


Bachelor's degree (BS or BA) in safety, environmental science, engineering, or related field; advanced degree or Certified Safety Professional status preferred. 10-15 years experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Individual must have the ability to mentor and to implement behavioral-based safety techniques. This position required 20% - 30% travel to our manufacturing locations (Primarily Wisconsin based). Strong organizational skills along with a working knowledge with Microsoft Office.
