The American Hospital Association (AHA) is a national organization that represents and serves all types of hospitals, health care networks, and their patients and communities. We are currently seeking a Senior Project Manager for our IT department located in the Chicago office.


The Senior Project Manager is responsible for the management of all aspects of assigned projects which vary in complexity from small to large; including scope, time, quality and communications, and cost/budget management. Adheres to AHA project lifecycle definitions and processes. Provides project management process leadership both within and external to the PMO, contributing to an environment of continual improvement through process validation, design and approval. Mentors team members with regard to all project management competencies and processes.

Essential Functions

* Manage all aspects of assigned projects which vary in complexity from inception to conclusion. Ensure assigned projects have clear alignment to strategic organizational priorities. Establish and implement project management processes and methodologies to ensure that projects are delivered to scope, on time and within budget.

* Provide project management expertise to stakeholders and other parties involved in defining scope of a project and driving the creation of the cost/benefit analysis.

* Develop and maintain detailed work plans, plan a project including appropriate milestones and tasks with assigned responsibility; based on agreed scope and in liaison with the project team and stakeholders. Communicate agreed project plan with all relevant parties and report any deviation from the plan during execution of the project.

* Conduct project meetings and is responsible for project tracking and analysis. Manage project team throughout the project life and liaise with relevant resource managers regarding roles, performance and workload of project team members to ensure that adequate resources are assigned to meet the project deadlines.

* Identify and manage risks and issues throughout the life of a project. Ensure all stakeholders and project team members are aware of the risks and the appropriate response actions taken to minimize the impact or likelihood of occurrence.

* Develop and maintain all project documentation, risk/issue logs and status reports, and ensure that all documents regularly updated and readily available, as per PMO best demonstrated practice and agreed procedures.

* Lead project evaluation discussions after completion of project; with appropriate parties and ensure that lessons learned are documented according to PMO best practice procedures.

* Champion best demonstrated practice and lead by example in implementation of existing and new PMO processes and procedures. Proactively identify areas for change in the PMO processes and work to lead and effect change.

* Mentor team members on project management best practices, project management ethics and professional conduct, and approaches to drive high performing teams. In liaison with PMO Director, support the delivery of training and learning exercises for the PMO team and team members with regards PMO processes and best practices.
