Job Summary

Provides full legal services on warranty and contractual liability products and services; drafts and revises program administrator, obligor and other business agreements; may provide advice to one or more additional departments. Has ongoing relationship and accountability for the client groups and department(s) being served.

Is an operational specialist and legal expert in the areas of practice (i.e. Warranty, extended service contracts, alternative risks and business contracting). Work assignments consist of major legal tasks involving complex issues and facts for which considerable legal judgment, experience and independent reasoning are required. This is not a litigation position.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

* Counsels client groups and management on matters of legal risk and obligation.

* Provides research, legal analysis, counsel and guidance on legal questions or issues.

* Provides opinion and/or prepares position papers on various legal issues and interpretation of contractual provisions.

* Reviews and/or drafts contracts; may review new products.

* Monitors legal and regulatory developments; advises client groups and management regarding changes.

* Prepares and/or reviews documents for financial or collateral transactions.

* May train department staff on appropriate procedures (e.g., underwriting legal issues, etc.).

* Periodically works with external clients while resolving legal issues.

* May interact with government agencies.

May perform additional duties as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

* Excellent verbal and written communication, negotiation and presentation skills.

* Strong technical competency in contract drafting.

* Strong negotiation, consultative and facilitation skills with the ability to effectively interact with all internal and external business partners,

* Ability to exercise independent judgment, and to work with and maintain confidential and sensitive information.

* Excellent analytical and problem solving skills, and senior level skill in managing ambiguous situations and issues.

* Proven ability to take a proactive long-term view of business goals and objectives in order to achieve strategic business results.

* Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software.

Education & Experience

* Bachelor's degree with JD, and admission to the bar of at least one state.

* A minimum of four years of legal experience with a proven track record of results.
