The University of Illinois Hospital & Clinics (UI Health) is seeking an Assistant Director Outpatient Therapy Services. Lead the delivery and advancement of the outpatient PT and OT services provided at the University of Illinois Hospital and Health Sciences System and facilitate achievement of the UI Health and UIC missions and goals. Responsible for the overall management of the outpatient physical and occupational therapy services. Ensure compliance with inpatient regulatory rules, provide standardized processes across all therapy locations.


Administrative activities:

* Recruit, hire, evaluate, develop and retain an appropriate complement of qualified outpatient staff to meet the needs of UI Health patients.

* Assist with management of the annual revenue and expense budgets for outpatient services

* Ensure a safe and efficient environment for the delivery of outpatient rehabilitation services and for the related administrative and educational activities.

* Design and direct quality improvement activities related to outpatient therapy services.

* Ensure compliance with UIC, UI Health and departmental policies and with all regulatory requirements relevant to the delivery of outpatient rehabilitation services.

* Conduct regular staff meetings that provide for the sharing of information and staff input into decision making.

* Develop a system for monitoring departmental and individual outpatient staff productivity.

* Participate in or lead committees and task forces within and outside the health system.

* Establish effective working relationships with all stakeholders including but not limited to referral sources, other clinical and nonclinical departments, and external agencies and groups.

* Ensure standardization of processes for delivery of care across all outpatient locations

* Ensure standards of care are based on evidence based practice across all outpatient locations

Direct Patient Care time (actual time with patients may vary) - includes all direct interventions and patient education that is integrated as a part of treatment session

Indirect Patient Care (IPC) - time spent in chart review, documentation (direct patient care documentation as well as any other documentation related to patient care), scheduling, attending team or family meetings and rounds (documented as clinic time), ordering equipment, assisting other staff

Provide professional therapy services directly or through consultation in accordance with the standards established by the professional association and other relevant regulatory requirements.

Academic and Clinical Teaching

Other related duties as assigned


* Master or Doctoral degree in Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy or related field.

* License to practice Physical or Occupational Therapy in the State of Illinois.

* Five years professional clinical experience.

* At least 2 years of supervisory experience.

* Advanced knowledge in a clinical specialty area: advanced Master's degree, advanced clinical competency

* certification, or post-graduate continuing education units preferred.

* Knowledge of strategic planning, financial management, human resources management, and management of

* the health care environment and clinical equipment.

* Knowledge of the legal and financial regulations affecting the practice of and payment for rehabilitation

* services.

* Knowledge of the principles of effective clinical education.

* Ability to establish and maintain supportive interpersonal relationships with all stakeholders including staff,

* faculty, academic and medical center administrators, other health professionals, students and

* patients/families.

* Evidence of good personal judgment and maturity.

* Ability to establish work priorities, assess work flow, and assign, review and evaluate the work of others.
