VDEM is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Accounts Payable Technician (Wage). This position will ensure timely and accurate processing of Virginia Department of Emergency Management's accounts payable transactions in compliance with state, federal, and agency policies and procedures.
? Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting principles (GAAP), fund accounting, and governmental financial management. ? Working knowledge of vendor payment processes, travel reimbursements, journal entries, vendor reconciliations, and revenue processing. ? Considerable skill in the use of MS Office products and automated office systems. Demonstrated ability to work independently or in a team, and meet deadlines with accurate and quality detailed results. ? Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with internal and external customers of various levels of management. Ability to gather information independently, compile data, and present results. ? Ability to interpret accounts payable policies and procedures. Able to assist in other areas of Finance when needed. High School Diploma or equivalency with coursework in accounting and/or bookkeeping, or a related field is preferred. A valid Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record are required. Must successfully pass a fingerprint-based criminal history background check.
Graduation from an accredited college or university with major studies in accounting, bookkeeping or a related field is highly preferred or an equivalent combination of relevant training and experience. Accounts payable experience in the Commonwealth of Virginia government is preferred.
All VDEM employees are designated as essential personnel and may be required to work during emergency situations, such as inclement weather, and natural or man-made disasters/events as directed. This may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official Employee Work Profile/job description. Salary commensurate with the education and experience of the applicant. This position is restricted due to funding source(s).
