Recreation Coordinator (Intramurals) - Part-Time

Position Summary:

Assist in the development, coordination, supervision and administration of all Pride Recreation Center campus recreational programs (intramurals and extramurals) under the supervision of the Pride Recreation Director / Assistant Director. This is a part-time, 20 hour a week, year round position.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (include but are not limited to)

* Create intramural leagues/schedules; Oversee and ensure safe and fair play of all recreational activities; be present during most regular scheduled intramural competitions and all playoff competitions; intervene if needed to mitigate conflicts/altercations; execute timely competition start and end times

* Supervise appropriate use and storage of all recreation equipment and provide appropriate game day set-ups and field/space; Ensure adequate maintenance and inventory of equipment and assist in equipment purchases when needed.

* Request/reserve field space for all intramural/extramural activities; Identify and coordinate informal recreation locations and activities throughout campus.

* Organize and/or devise official rules of play for intramurals as governed by the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) and facilitate each sport's supervisor/referee/ captain's meetings and trainings.

* Provide and report data on game scores and student participation in recreational programs; Generate utilization and annual report statistics for intramural/extramural programming including informal recreation usage, participation statistics, forfeit deposits etc.

* Maintain and update intramural handbooks as needed (employee and participant).

* Research comparable institutions to review similarities and differences within intramurals and recommend areas for improvement to increase efficiency and efficacy.

* Develop, implement, apply and enforce written procedures for all applicable programs, facility, and staff; Serve as the primary facility and staff contact during evening operating hours; Perform closing procedures in the absence of a student manager(s).

* Hire, train and evaluate intramural student staff; Provide support for all Pride Recreation Center programs (when applicable) including: club sports, special events, climbing wall, group fitness etc.

* Supervise and assist with scheduling of all students related to intramurals including wage earning supervisors, referees, scorekeepers and non-compensated team captains/players.

* Promote campus recreational programs through a variety of incentives and media outlets (website, social media, email, internal communication,etc.) Recruit intramural participants by acting as a liaison at multiple student / university sponsored events (Freshman Orientations, Freshman Seminars, Information Fairs, Accepted Students Day, Widener Days etc.).

* Actively seek and research opportunities to implement and facilitate new and non-traditional recreational programs.

* Conduct end of the semester all-star and campus champion awards/ceremonies.

* Provide special event coverage when needed.

* Other job related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (Education/Training and Experience Required)

Required:

* Bachelor's Degree in relevant field and 1-3 years' experience in a recreational role or sport management capacity or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

* Mastery of basic level in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Internet search software.

* Excellent communication skills (i.e. grammar/vocabulary) to be applied to telephone communications and to written communications such as emails, letters, memos etc.

* Familiarity with tournament styles (6 week leagues, 1-2 day tournaments, brackets/round robins) and creation/scheduling of games.

* Execute strong leadership capabilities and effective interpersonal skills.

Preferred:

* Experience with desktop publishing or knowledge of software capable of creating calendars, schedules, flyers, statistics, etc.

* Experience with marketing and recruiting initiatives and incentives.

* Experience with IMleagues / game scheduling software.

Physical Requirements and / or Unusual Work hours:

* Lifting / Transporting of equipment - Must be able to lift up to 50lbs

* Routinely bending, standing and walking

* Minimal travel required

* Evening and weekend hours required
