Maintenance Technician I

Applies basic skills in a learning environment needed to develop skills to perform routine operations using tools and equipment appropriate for the position. Learns to apply the technical concepts, practices, and procedures and a general knowledge of industry standards and government regulations related to the repair and maintenance of equipment at the gas processing plant, and field compressor stations.

* Applies standard solutions to problems or work situations of a routine or repetitive nature related to the maintenance and operation of the gas processing plant and field compressor stations.

* Ensures gas processing plant and field compressor stations are maintained and operate in a safe and efficient manner.

* Performs weekly, quarterly, and annual preventative maintenance of plant and field engines and compressors.

* Troubleshoots mechanical problems due to failures or signs of failure for engines, compressors, pumps, or any other plant equipment and performs necessary repairs.

* Performs overhaul of compressors and engines and reconditioning equipment as needed.

* Trains and develops junior mechanics in the repair and troubleshooting of equipment, consistent with guidelines and procedures.

* Adheres to safety and environmental policies, observing staff to ensure policies and procedures are followed.

* Attends and actively participates in safety meetings and the plant safety program.

* Maintains housekeeping of compressor stations and plant, as well as individual work sites.

* Relieves maintenance foreman as requested.

* Collects oil samples for analysis.

* Prepares maintenance reports on a daily basis and maintains equipment record keeping.

* Overtime and rotating week and/or weekend work schedule are requirements of the job.

* Valid driver's license required to operate company vehicles.

* Performs other duties as required, which may include assignments in job classifications other than the primary assignment.


* High school diploma or G.E.D. and 1-3 years of experience in maintenance and operation of natural gas engines and compressors. A combination of education, experience and training may be substituted for the post-high school requirements.

* Must be able to read, write and speak the English language at a 12th grade level, perform mathematical calculations required for the position, and learn to interpret and comprehend company policies, procedures, safety instructions, and other like documents used in an energy industry environment.

* Good knowledge of electronic and pneumatic control systems for natural gas engines.

* Proficient in use of hand and power tools necessary to perform plant maintenance and repair, and knowledgeable in the processes and procedures of the function.

* Knowledge of gas processing and treating systems and related pumps and filters, gas detection, and emergency shutdown systems preferred.

* Competent in the use of standard software applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel and operation of standard office equipment.

* Valid driver's license required.

* Good organizational, written and verbal communication skills, ability to maintain confidentiality and work as a team to meet strict deadlines. • Competent in making telephone and direct personal contact with internal and external personnel.

LEVEL OF MANAGEMENT OVERSIGHT AND CONTROL: Work is closely monitored. Follows well established policies and practices. Follows instructions as to objectives but exercises latitude in determining methods. Work is checked but not closely monitored.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is normally performed outside where exposure to conditions of extreme heat/cold, fumes and gases is common. Noise level is moderate to loud and includes sounds of trucks and like equipment. Job hazards include working in normal, light, and heavy equipment repair activities and around gas or petroleum based products in all weather conditions. Overtime is a requirement of the job. Random drug and alcohol testing is required to comply with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work normally requires finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination to operate hand and power tools as well as a computer keyboard at moderate skill level. Work may require frequent pushing, pulling, or carrying 75-pound objects such as tools and equipment. Overtime is a requirement of the job. Work involves standing and walking most of the time, but may involve limited sitting and driving for periods.
