Gift Shop Manager

As the Gift Shop Manager, you will oversee the front line retail team and coordinate customer service, merchanding, stocking, and inventory control for three Aquarium gift shops. You will also provide input for budgets, policies and procedures, and staff development. To succeed in this position, you must have a strong background in retail with a desire to drive sales while demonstrating excellent communication and leadership skills.

Key Responsibilities

* Hire, train, evaluate, and take necessary corrective actions to successfully manage and maintain a high performing, diverse team of 15 full/part-time staff plus seasonal staff

* Determine performance parameters and supervise staff development

* Create work schedules; track and approve hours including overtime, sick, vacation, etc.

* Monitor cash register sales; reconcile discrepancies, record cash receipts and prepare sales reports

* Solve register procedure problems and mechanical issues; maintain register soft keys

* Obtain information from computer for tracking sales and ensure the accuracy of transfers from the warehouse to the shop

* Complete internet and phone orders; coordinate with Reservations and group leaders on fulfillment of student fun pack orders

* Manage payroll and profit margins within established guidelines; identifiy creative ways to drive sales and achieve departmental goals

* Create, design, construct, and repair displays as necessary

* Maintain shops and submit work orders when necessary; help oversee gift shops renovations

* Oversee inventory process, help with stock, and serve as backup cashier as necessary

* Promote and supervise presentations and incentives about customer service

* Execute and maintain Core Values and Service Standards

Key Requirements

* Degree in business, retail or a related field preferred

* Must have a minimum of 3-4 years prior retail experience

* Minimum of 1-2 years in a supervisory role with a proven ability to unite, educate and lead a diverse group of individuals as a team and foster a cooperative work environment

* Extensive knowledge of retail stock, cash management/control principals, and cash register procedures

* Exceptional customer service skills and knowledge of customer service recovery practices

* Employee development and performance management experience

* At least an Intermediate in computer proficiency

Full-time, exempt; remain on call when stores are open
