Position Summary

The Social Media Specialist & Content Writer will support the Duke Energy corporate communications team with community management for efforts across social media platforms (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn). This role will protect and enhance Duke Energy's reputation and position it favorably to key stakeholders including Duke Energy customers, the news media, employees and members, business and community leaders, and the utility industry.

This person will engage first in listening, then actively participating in communities to connect with customers and key stakeholders to share information, participate in discussions, diffuse negative situations and/or escalate any issues to the appropriate internal/client teams as needed.

The Social Media Specialist & Content Writer will also produce a steady supply of compelling, high-quality social content and develop stories for Duke Energy's external brand journalism website, illumination.

Responsibilities

* Monitor online conversations, understand and keep up with the uniqueness of each social channel, and recommend strategies and content that customers and key stakeholders are most likely to engage with in each channel

* Review inbound user comments and posts in a timely manner

* Respond to comments to foster a positive community and add value to the user's experience

* Escalate inbound user comments, where appropriate, to internal team and client stakeholders

* Act as liaison with customer marketing social media team when necessary to support sensitive customer service situations

* Respond rapidly to issues and concerns shared within online platforms and community, in compliance with applicable laws, regulations and corporate policies

* Enforce the social media/community guidelines as defined by the brand

* Participate in team brainstorms to develop brand campaigns and creative assets for publishing across social channels

* Contribute to an editorial calendar to sustain a strong and steady pipeline of engaging stories and multimedia content for Duke Energy's social channels and external brand journalism website

Working Conditions

* Commit to being available for storm emergency restoration duties: "on-call" and "call out" duties as required by channel demands including occasional time required outside of standard /scheduled work hours

Basic/Required Qualifications

* Undergraduate degree in communications, marketing, advertising, public relations, media studies, business and/or related fields.

* 2 to 3 years of experience managing social media platforms or communities for brands

* A proficiency in using Microsoft Word

Desired Qualifications

* Experience in a regulated industry i.e. utility, finance, healthcare or telecommunications

* Experience with social media management systems for enterprise (i.e. Sprinklr, Salesforce, Hootsuite, Sprout Social, etc.)

* Demonstrated experience in engaging and activating online community groups and social media channels

* Experience regularly drafting messages (both proactive and reactive) on behalf of a large brand, corporation, and executives is preferred. Long and short-form writing samples will be requested.

* Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills to work efficiently and effectively with clients, teammates, and management
