Description of Work

The Rehabilitation Counselor position located in the Arrowood Satellite Office of the Charlotte Unit, serves individuals with mental illness and substance use disorders. This counselor will need knowledge about Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders Working as a team member with VR Staff, community partners, and individuals being served

Selected applicant is accountable for the design and implementation of a comprehensive plan of vocational rehabilitation services for persons with disabilities.

Job responsibilities include the following:

* Evaluating diagnostic data to determine eligibility and needed services

* Develop a written plan of services in conjunction with the consumer

* Provide rehabilitation services within the context of a guidance and counseling relationship, provide supportive counseling

* Monitor the consumer's progress throughout the service delivery process

* Work directly with community partners in order to assist individuals with disabilities in becoming suitably employed

* Document service delivery and case progress in the case management system as required by agency policy

Knowledge of supported employment practices is also a key skill area for this position. The position requires the ability to multi task, to do job development and placement, and to provide services necessary in order to enable individuals with disabilities to go to work.

Travel within assigned area will be required.

Salary Grade: GN10

* Ability to establish professional relationships with and work effectively with individuals with disabilities

* In-depth knowledge of casework methodology and techniques of rehabilitation counseling

* Considerable knowledge of federal and state laws governing the delivery of rehabilitation or independent living services

* Thorough knowledge of psychosocial implications related to behaviors and attitudes of individuals who have a disability

* Demonstrated ability to interpret medical and psychological data in planning and developing rehabilitative services

* Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with consumers, family members, and various professional and specialty services involved in the rehabilitation process

* Ability to network and communicate effectively with area employers and community agencies through excellent verbal and written skills

* Ability to present and interpret information in an appropriate manner to a variety of participants with disabling conditions

Management prefers candidates with the following:

* CRC

* Good counseling and interpersonal skills

* Experience working with adults with mental illness

* Ability to work effectively with community partners to develop employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Master's degree in rehabilitation counseling from an appropriately accredited institution;

OR

Master's degree in a related human services field from an appropriately accredited institution;

OR

Current certification as a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor by the Commission of Rehabilitation Counselor Certification;

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience.
