REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

* Must be a current Salaried/Exempt level Charleston County School District employee;

* This person should display through his/her actions an ability to work in cooperation with a staff of other coaches. He/she should display leadership in skills that will be conducive to high levels of productivity and the development of positive relationships with students. Good decision-making skills, initiative, effort and commitment to young people and education are desirable traits. Above all, this coach should be a "people person" and indicate, through his/her actions, a personality that is conducive to positive interaction with students, staff and parents.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.The foremost responsibility is to the students. The first duty of the head wrestling coach is to see that high standards are maintained throughout the entire wrestling program. The staff, equipment, uniforms and condition of facilities should reflect pride and a standard of excellence.

2.Directly responsible for the welfare and safety of all athletes in the program. Teaching the fundamentals of physical conditioning and the game of wrestling are critical in this responsibility. The coach and his/her staff should be well-versed in the care and prevention of athletic injuries.

3.Coordinates the wrestling program and is responsible for leading, managing and guiding his/her staff of assistant wrestling coaches.

4.Stays up-to-date in the current knowledge and trends in high school wrestling. The methods and techniques that are used and taught should indicate an understanding and interest in young people.

5.Is directly responsible for the safety, cleanliness, care and maintenance of the wrestling locker rooms, facilities, mats, practice room and equipment.

6.Is responsible for the entire wrestling program, abiding by the rules and regulations of the School, the District, the South Carolina High School League and the Code of Ethics.

7.Makes sure that all of the participants are eligible for physical exams, insurance is carefully recorded, and the academic performance is monitored and emphasized.

8.Works well with the total athletic program. Has a good rapport with the faculty and the athletic staff. He/she should emphasize student participation in other sports and activities. At no time should any wrestling coach encourage wrestlers to specialize unless the athletic director and coaches of the other sports are notified and it is in the best interest and welfare of the student involved.

9.Is responsible for maintaining proper conduct and behavior of his/her athletes.

10.Is directly responsible for the inventory of uniforms and equipment at the end of the season and the proper storage thereof.

Physical/Mental Requirements:

* Ability to speak, hear, see, lift, pull, push, walk and stand for extended periods of time.

* Ability to kneel, crouch and stoop as needed.

* Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Salary Range: $ - $ (based on the 2011-2012 salary schedule)

The applicant should send confidential reference forms to appropriate persons to complete and submit either by mail or fax to Teacher Employment. References should include a present supervisor/principal (if still employed) or past supervisor or classroom cooperating teacher and student teaching supervisor for beginning teachers. A college or university placement/career file that contains these references may be used for new teachers.

If you were a previous CCSD employee, a confidential reference from your last principal in CCSD must be provided.
