Charleston County School District is seeking team members who possess a demonstrated commitment to holding high personal expectations as well as high expectations for students, teachers, and administrators to apply for the position of Assistant Basketball Coach. REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

* Must be a current Salaried/Exempt level Charleston County School District employee;

* This person should have extensive knowledge and experience in planning, organizing and supervising the school basketball program of all levels. As the leader of a staff of coaches of the main revenue-producing sport in the school, this person should display leadership skills that will be conducive to high levels of productivity. Proven decision-making skills and a track record of initiative, effort and commitment to young people and education is a must. Above all, this coach should be a "people person" and indicate, through his/her actions, a personality that is conducive to positive interaction with students, staff and parents.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.The foremost responsibility is to the students. The first duty of the assistant basketball coach is to see that high standards are practiced. His/her actions and behavior should reflect pride and a standard of excellence.

2.Directly responsible for the welfare and safety of all athletes under his/her direction. Teaching the fundamentals of physical conditioning and the game of basketball are critical in this responsibility. The coach should be well-versed in care and prevention of athletic injuries.

3.Works well under the direction of the head basketball coach and in cooperation with other staff members.

4.Stays up-to-date in the current knowledge and trends in high school basketball. The methods and techniques that are used and taught should indicate an understanding and interest in young people.

5.Is directly responsible for any duties assigned to him/her by the head basketball coach. These duties may include responsibility for maintenance and cleanliness of locker rooms, courts, bleachers and equipment.

6.Is responsible for abiding by the rules and regulations of the School, the District, the South Carolina High School League and the Code of Ethics.

7.Ensures that the academic performance of his/her athletes is emphasized and that their on-and-off field behavior is responsible and conducive to good citizenship.

8.Works well with the total athletic program. Has a good rapport with the faculty and the athletic staff. He/she should emphasize student participation in other sports and activities. At no time should any basketball coach encourage players to specialize unless the athletic director and coaches of the other sports are notified and it is in the best interest and welfare of the student involved.

Physical/Mental Requirements:

* Ability to speak, hear, see, lift, pull, push, walk and stand for extended periods of time.

* Ability to kneel, crouch and stoop as needed.

* Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Supplement pay is based on the number of years of coaching experience in the particular sport at an accredited or certified public and/or private school and the school's division level (A, AA, AAA, or AAAA).
