Advanced Life Support Ground Paramedic needed

The Advanced Life Support (ALS) Ground Paramedic will provide safe and timely ground transport of patients, while also providing basic and advanced life support care. This is a highly visible position requiring outstanding customer service. It is essential for the ALS Ground Paramedic to be proficient in ALS skills and is comfortable interfacing with nurses and other medical staff in a variety of environments. Scope of care consists of capability to deliver per-hospital Advanced Life Support Care.

Must be able to lift over 150 pounds and carry 80 pounds a distance of 30 feet. Additionally must be able to push/pull over 200 pounds ( i.e. patients on beds, stretcher, wheel chair) lateral transfer.

Duties to include but not limited to:

* Monitors patient condition during ground transport to provide optimal stabilization

* Monitors communication equipment and communicates with dispatch personnel, medical staff, family members and other stakeholders

* Ensures relevant information is collected and proper treatment is administered

* Communicates assessments and plan of care in a professional manner with appropriate personnel

* Documents patients' status, delivery of care and evaluation of the patients' response to care according to unit specific procedures and established protocols

* Contacts physicians for guidance, as needed, and follows treatment protocols as described by UNC Hospitals Critical Care Transport Medical Direction

* Obtains direction regarding further care from medical staff. Delivers emergency care such as CPR, oxygen administration, bandaging and splinting of patients, in accordance with established protocols under UNC Hospital Critical Care Transport Medical Direction if necessary

* Participates in plan of care for patients who are acutely ill and require transport from referring institutions

* Operates medical and mechanical equipment in the pre-hospital, hospital and transport environment. Ensures medical equipment is functioning. Restocks medical supplies as needed.

High School Diploma or GED required. Required to possess one to three years of experience as a EMT-Basic or similar. Prefer NC Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMT-P) certification or National equivalent with ability to obtain NC EMT-P within 30 days of hire needed. If possess NC EMT-P certification must obtain National Registry Paramedic certification within 12 months of hire. Current BLS Provider, ACLS, PALS certification required. Must obtain ITLS / PHTLS certification within one year of hire. Valid NC Driver's License in good standing or able to obtain prior to start date and will accept licensure from Virginia, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
