Job Description

Intertek, a leading provider of ATIC (Assurance, Testing, Inspection and Certification) Services, is looking for a Wet Chemistry Analytical Chemist II to join our food team in Champaign, IL.

The food team helps clients involved in the manufacturing and distribution of food products and services through assurance, testing, inspection, auditing and certification. From the farm to the fork, we assist customers at all points of the food supply chain in providing quality and safety to the products and processes.

By delegation from the Group supervisor, to provide, in a safe, legal, and ethical manner, the technical skills and routine problem solving abilities needed to support the analytical and testing services of the Laboratory. Meanwhile, as a chemist with advanced level, demonstrate positive model in the team both in lab testing and working behavior.

Duties

* To devise and apply the methodology for dealing effectively with those special analytical problems encountered during the routine or sometime non-routine testing service, especially related to testing heavy metals, mercury, minerals and wet chemistry using various instruments such as FT-IR, ICP-OES, ICP-MS, spectrophotometer, Mercury Analyzer, Auto-titrator, and etc.

* To document any change of the methodology and forward to Lab Directors, lab manager, and QC manager for the update of methods as SAMs referred to in 2.1 above, and to train entry level chemists and technicians as designated and necessary in the methodology related to the area specialization.

* To keep up with current of analytical literature related to the field of specialization and be aware of current developments in the area of focus for the nutrition supplement and food industries.

* To perform statistical analyses of analytical data.

* To qualify and calibrate analytical equipment, used for daily research and testing.

* To perform service according to GLP and GMP standards and the internal SOPs and SAMs, and to apply adequate quality control measure to ensure that data generate meet the method requirements and industrial standards.

* To fulfill responsibilities of other tests as designated by Lab Manager.

* To participate on a limited basis in the development and validation of new methods and verifying an existing method for appropriate use, as assigned to by Group Leader and Lab Manager.

* To supervise entry level chemists and technicians on analytical techniques, equipment calibration and maintenance on an as needed basis, but the supervision role is limited.

* To understand the properties of chemical substances, especially in regard to the hazards thereof, and to provide advices to entry level chemists and technicians on safety related practices.

* Working with Group Leader to evaluate continually the safety of laboratory working conditions and arrange for necessary corrections to be made.

* To adhere to professionalism and to the principles of the scientific method, basing decisions on education, experience, observation, and deduction.

* To carry out the above responsibilities, and all others which may be assigned, in a manner demonstrating support for and adherence to the Company's Safety Policy and Procedures, Quality Policy and Procedures, Ethics Policy, Environmental Management System, Vision and Strategy, and to exercise good judgment, common sense, and diplomacy in so doing.

Requirements

* B.S. in Analytical Chemistry or related field with minimum of 4 years or Master with at least 2 years with direct experience, or Ph.D.in the field of analytical chemistry, analytical biochemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, with significant knowledge of analytical chemistry techniques demonstrated through a combination of industry and academic performance.

* Experience and technical expertise in developing, validating and performing quantitative and qualitative analysis of molecules by ICP-OES, ICP-MS, and other conventional testing methods such as FT-IR, spectrophotometer, mercury analyzer. The incumbent should be familiar with various modern analytical techniques. Experience working in a cGMP, GLP or ISO17025 environment will be a plus in consideration.

* Direct industry experience gained from a regulated laboratory is highly desirable, but not critical. Experience in a service or contract laboratory and familiarity with the USP, EPA and analytical methods by recognized bodies preferred.

* Good organization/multitasking, oral and written communication and timeline management skills.

* As a mid-level experienced chemist, the incumbent is expected to demonstrated track of success with minimal supervision and ability to maintain a level of scientific and technical independence in technical issue resolution
