Job Posting Title:Educational Assistant IV - Severe Needs (Home Base) Job Description:Responsible for providing assistance to special education teachers; assists in instruction, medical and health needs of special education students; provides some clerical support; may provided assistance with a variety of daily functions such as behavior support as well as life skills instruction; implement daily and long range lessons; assists students with daily functions such as food preparation, hand over hand or tube feeding, toileting; etc.. Collaborates and consults with special needs team and other specialists. Experience in an educational environment preferred; verbal and written communication skills in English and a demonstrated ability to read and comprehend written/graphic and oral instructions; computer skills word processing; data base and spreadsheets. The location of this position is based on student need and is subject to change as needed. Essential Physical Requirements: ● Occasional lifting of 40 to 70 pounds ● Frequent bending, standing, sitting, walking ● Occasional reaching, kneeling, bending, squatting, or standing ● Ability to run short distances Position Specific Information (if Applicable): Provide support for general education students with executive functioning, sensory, social, emotional, and behavioral needs. Support special education students by collaborating with specialists and providing carry over curriculum/skill lessons. Follow procedural guidelines for referral and intervention processes within the home base program (a resource program providing a multi-tiered level of support with regard to sensory and emotional regulation). Learn and implement regulation curriculums and strategies related to these needs individually and in small groups, and implement opportunities for carry over into general education environments. Examples: The Zones of Regulation, Alert Program Social Thinking Brainwise Mindfulness Facilitate short breaks for students within the home base program for regulation Collaborate with specialists and general education teachers and staff (including providing resources and support to general education staff) Provide whole group/class training with regard to social and emotional regulation skills curriculum Data collection/Notes Create necessary tools and/or individualized materials within working folders for each student containing student work sample/produced activities Seek opportunities to expand knowledge and skills Skills and Competencies Preferred: Self-starter and ability to initiate tasks independently Experience with executive functioning, sensory, social, emotional, and behavioral needs Elementary experience Empathy Structure/organization Able to utilize behavioral management strategies in small group settings Familiarity with Microsoft Excel or Google Spreadsheets Responsibilities: --- Support daily and long range lessons and activities under the direction of a certified teacher to meet Individual Education Plan (IEP) goals. --- Assist students with daily functions such as food preparation, hand over hand or tube feeding, toileting, etc., as well as life skills instructions. --- Collaborate and consult with special needs team and other specialist on various activities, planning, and resource allocations. --- Administer and document prescription medication to students and perform medical procedures. --- May provide assistance in some therapeutic activities as prescribed by therapist and assist in documentation of progress and services. --- May be responsible for classroom supervision in the absence of the teacher. --- May assist and escort student in bus transference, which may involve lifting children and/or equipment. May provide assistance to students in non-classroom settings. --- Communicate with parents and other school personnel as needed. --- Respect confidentiality regarding student needs and abilities. --- Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
