Position Overview

Protective Insurance is seeking a Product Manager for its Commercial Auto segment in Carmel, Indiana. This position is responsible for executing the company's product strategy and vision across its portfolio of Commercial Auto products in support of profitability and growth goals.

Primary Duties

* Monitor product performance, conduct change impact analysis, and implement changes to pricing, coverage, and underwriting appetite.

* Assess market segments and provide recommendations for product strategies and improvements.

* Define underwriting guidelines for individual Commercial Auto products.

* Maintain a thorough knowledge of company product features and benefits as well as industry product trends, and provide expertise to various internal stakeholders.

* Collaborate with other business units to assess market needs and opportunities.

* Evaluate market and competitor trends and conditions to capitalize on potential opportunities.

* Coordinate effectively with other departments such as Accounting, Actuarial, Claims, Information Technology, Marketing and Underwriting to provide guidance on decision making.

* Manage the system enhancement process for product improvements and offerings that require system programing with the Information Technology department.

* Support Product Development in the creation of new product offerings.


* Minimum 8 years of commercial property and casualty underwriting experience for an insurance company or reinsurer.

* Minimum 5 years of experience with Commercial Auto.

* Bachelor's degree in insurance, risk management, finance, business or mathematics related field.

* CPCU, AU or similar designation is a plus.

* Ability to work independently, execute quickly, and drive results.

* Working knowledge of fundamental statistical and actuarial analysis techniques.

* Strong analytical and problem solving skills.

* Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

* Ability to foster and maintain excellent internal and external working relationships.

* Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word.
