Summary of Internship

The SynBio development internship position provides an opportunity for biology students who are pursuing a biology related degree to get hands on experience working with scientists in a fast paced lab environment. The position starts in August, paid working 40 hours per week for 1 year. This internship is available in partnership with the CIRM program.

Essential Functions

* The intern will be responsible for working with a scientist on a project in genome engineering with applications in stem cells

* Support a variety of lab activities and may be assigned to a variety of molecular biology tasks throughout the department such as cloning, PCR, and gel analysis.

* Be involved with many aspects of cell culture and some genome engineering in mammalian cells

* Maintain a lab notebook and participate in weekly lab meetings

Skills and Abilities

* Ability to work independently and as a member of a cross-functional team

* Strong willingness to learn, be mentored, and improve

* Desire to contribute and improve design of new and existing products and protocols

* Strong customer focus

Qualifications

* Accepted into the CIRM program

* Biology background with some lab experience preferred

* General gene editing and mammalian cell culture knowledge preferred
