Job Summary

Job Summary

This is a seasonal part-time 80% (32 hours/week) Buildings & Grounds Worker position is at Lake Carlos State Park near Alexandria, Minnesota. The dates are from approximately May 09 through September 18th, 2018. Shifts include evenings. Work days include weekends and holidays.

Grounds maintenance: Mow and trim grass. Carry out weed control program. Plant/trim trees and shrubs; remove trees and stumps. Dispose of waste materials. Develop, maintain, and groom trails. Clean grills. Operate trucks/tractors/mowers, chainsaws, tree planters/ and stump removers, etc. Grade/repair roads. Install/paint/repair picnic tables, signs, posts, fences. Assist with resource management projects such as prescribed burns, re-forestation, and seed collection, plus other resource management tasks. Maintain inventory as needed.

Responsibilities include:

* Building and facility maintenance and repair: Clean floors, walls, windows, bathroom facilities, fixtures. Dispose of waste materials. Paint structures. Repair or replace broken or leaking water pipes. Perform minor electrical, heating and plumbing repairs and monitor meters. Maintain beach facilities/equipment/sand; maintain picnic areas/equipment, etc.

* Equipment inspection and maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on small engines, vehicles, hand and small power tools, other equipment and tools. Keep equipment and shop clean and in good order. Complete reports and forms on use and repairs.

* Other: Pick/up deliver supplies/materials/equipment. Stock firewood. Sell vehicle permits. Assist/serve public in field/office on phone. Assist in enforcement of park/trail regulations, provide severe weather warnings and secure park during summer. Other tasks as assigned. In all duties assure safety for all.

* Provide lead work direction to students, residents, and seasonal workers.


Minimum Qualifications:

* Willingness and ability to work alone at night in the park.

* Ability to operate a motor vehicle, tractor, lawn mower, small hand tools and other equipment and tools.

* Ability to read and comprehend instructions on labels, instruction manuals, etc.

* Ability to effectively communicate with the public and other employees.

* Ability to become certified in Basic Chain Saw use within 45 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Ability to operate a phone, two-way radio, computer, cash register, and other office equipment.

* Experience providing lead work direction to staff.

* Experience performing routine maintenance and repair of small engines, vehicles and other equipment and tools.

* Ability to provide written information and instructions to the public and other employees.

* Knowledge of park rules, policies, and facilities.

* Record keeping skills

* Computer Skills

* Experience in the construction trades.

* Security experience and training.

* First Aid and CPR training.

Physical Requirements

Requires occasional lifting articles such as 50-pound bags and frequently lifting and /or carrying objects such as heavy tools and file boxes. This job may require walking or standing to a significant degree on rough terrain or may involve sitting most of the time with pushing and pulling of arm and/or leg controls.

This position requires successful completion of the following:
