Day Shift *Temporary*

Process and prepare incoming and outgoing mail. Sort incoming mail for distribution to proper departments. Use mail machine to weigh, seal and stamp outgoing mail. Pick up and distribute mail, memos, packages, paper communication and documents within the Hospital, 1708 Lacey, and Medical Office Building (Broadway)

Begin

  • Maintains a customer service oriented attitude and have the ability to maintain a positive and professional attitude in all aspects of job duties
  • Collects mail from the mailroom on each round for delivery to departments or individuals
  • Collects mail from departments or individuals for delivery to other departments, individuals, or the mailroom
  • Keeps mail and messages organized on the mail cart
  • Pushes and guides the transportation cart in such a way as not to cause injury to self or others or damage hospital walls, doors, elevators, etc.
  • Makes three rounds of all hospital areas each shift when possible
  • Reports problems with messenger services to Materials Management Manager on a timely basis
  • Makes recommendation for changes and/or improvements in Messenger/Mail service
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient information as required of all employees
  • Delivers newspapers to hospital departments and nursing stations as needed
  • Gives directions to visitors and other hospital guests as necessary
  • Meets and greets people in a positive manner and demonstrates a helping, caring attitude
  • Advises staff as to proper addressing of inter-departmental envelopes
  • Works overtime as necessary
  • Sort incoming mail by departments
  • Discard junk mail per policy
  • Address and fill interoffice mailers to prepare them to be distributed
  • Sort outgoing mail according to pre-sort guidelines
  • Sort, seal and stamp outgoing mail and place in trays or tubs for pick-up
  • Print daily batch and funds report from mail machine
  • Requisition checks to order postage for mail machine meter
  • Fund necessary accounts through USPS
  • Prepare special mail (i.e. certified, registered or express mail) and file reports and receipts.
  • Keep mailroom clean
  • Monitor ink, sealing liquid, meter tape and other supplies and replace as necessary.
  • Inspect mail machine output for defects; determine how to eliminate causes of any defects; clear jams
  • Arrange for any routine or special service on mail machine and document when service is administered
  • Advise staff of proper mailing procedures
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Warehouse Supervisor
  • Communicates pertinent information within the department

Become

  • Use on-the-job training of messenger/mail clerk and general hospital policies to accurately perform job duties
  • Prior experience as a messenger or mail clerk is preferred
  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds
  • Must be able to read, write, count, and converse well in English
  • Ability to understand the speech of others. Listens and understands information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences
  • The ability to communicate information in speech and writing so others can understand
  • Must be able to walk long distances to cover three rounds of the hospital, 1708 Lacey and MOB (Broadway)
