Day Shift

Performs highly skilled work of considerable difficulty peculiar to the biomedical repair profession

Begin

  • Tests and repairs electro medical equipment such as various physiological monitors, infusion pumps, telemetry transmitters and receivers following schematic diagrams and using various test analyzers and hand tools
  • Tests electronic circuits and components to locate faulty components and to determine manufacturer specifications
  • Replaces defective components and printed circuit board assemblies, and subassemblies, using hand tools ad desoldering equipment
  • Performs electrical safety and operational inspections to all types of clinical devices
  • Attends manufacturer repair schools and seminars
  • Skilled in use analyzing and testing equipment, schematics, service manuals
  • Instructs and tutors clinical staff in the operation of sophisticated equipment clinical equipment
  • Assigns and tracks progress or Work Orders
  • Assigns and tracks progress of Preventive Maintenance
  • Assists Director on projects involving Biomedical Services
  • Assists Director with staff time management
  • Assists Director with payroll punch detail report
  • Acts as a liaison for Director to staff and other departments
  • Responsible for running the Biomed department and attending specified events in absence of Biomed Manager
  • Performs highly skilled work of considerable difficulty assigned as a specific responsibility of the Biomedical Services Department
  • Act as mentor to Biomed Equipment Tech I, II and III
  • Work independently making organizational decisions

Become

  • Has significant amount of education or training or equivalent experience
  • May specialize in certain types of equipment requiring special training or experience, e.g., radiology or clinical laboratory equipment
  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Has a minimum of 6 years of experience as a BMET
  • Associates degree in Electronic Technology, Engineering, or Military training required
  • Has strong communication skills, written, and oral
  • Has independent judgment skills
  • Able to prioritize projects/work orders/preventive maintenance needs
  • Has comprehensive knowledge of practices, procedures, types or equipment
  • Is considered a paraprofessional and should be competent in doing the actual maintenance and repairs on most hospital instrumentation
  • Must have some background or training in physiology, anatomy, chemistry and biology to converse with physicians, nurses, and technicians as well as reading and understanding the operation and repair manuals of devices
  • Must be active in pursuing technical knowledge of devices and their use and operation, and a competent understanding of current safety guidelines and standards
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English
