Principal Consultant - IT Sourcing Advisory (REMOTE LOCATION)

The Principal Consultant participates as part of an advisory team in the delivery of ISG Services in support of client business optimization and digital and technology enablement.

The Principal Consultant participates as a leader, and team member of IT Consulting engagements, sourcing transactions and transitions, strategy and operational assessments, service delivery strategies, contracting & negotiations, and service delivery design and implementation.

The Principal Consultant has the responsibility to build client relationships, lead teams, and manage efforts which generate revenue for the firm. This includes assisting clients through service delivery optimization initiatives such as technical solution assessments, designing and implementing delivery models, service delivery transformation and sourcing facilitation.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Qualifications:

• Skills
a) Ability to work and deliver at the strategic, tactical, and transactional consulting levels.
b) Ability to lead small to medium-sized, highly leveraged and potentially virtual or global teams, consisting of various skill sets, to deliver consulting engagements.
c) Excellent presentation, verbal, and written communication skills with the ability to understand complex business problems, synthesize conversations, business solutions, and effectively communicate at all levels of corporate organizations.
d) Sales experience, specifically the ability to listen to clients and interpret business needs into solutions and requirements; match to ISG service offerings; the ability to write both technically and creatively.
e) Ability to serve as a Subject Matter Expert with deep operational and/or technical knowledge in at least 2 of the following subjects: Enterprise Agility (DevOps); Cloud Architecture and Design; Cloud Computing (SaaS, PaaS, IaaS); Applications and Infrastructure Virtualization; Applications Rationalization and Modernization; Analytics, IOT, Automation, Enterprise Architecture, Applications Development, Maintenance, and Support; Data Center Operations; Managed Network Services; Workplace Services; or Service Desk.
f) Sales and marketing collateral development, IP development, and solution development.

• Knowledge

a) Significant knowledge of IT market trends and technology service provider’s capabilities and their implication on business strategy.
b) Deep understanding of Enterprise Agility
c) Working knowledge of information technology, specifically applications and/or infrastructure strategy, operating models, solutions architecture, systems implementation and integration, service delivery, sourcing contracts, and service provider management.
d) Significant knowledge and experience (5+ years) in financial management of global service delivery models. Significant working knowledge of Tiers 1, 2technology services providers delivering sourced services.
e) Significant understanding of corporate financial practices and goals managing global, multi-party, service delivery models

• Experience

a) 10+ years of demonstrated increasing levels of responsibility.
b) Operational experience preferably working for IT consulting, management consulting, or technology solutions focused service provider(s) (sell side) in several roles including technology strategy and architecture, service delivery management, and management of complex, global IT organizations OR equivalent experience with “buy side” (client) managing large scale, complex, operations in global or major Cloud, Shared Services or outsourced environments.
c) Demonstrated ability to execute and project manage the implementation and delivery of Strategic IT Programs within agreed timeline, budget, and quality standards.
d) Experience focused on transformation aspects including organization optimization, shared services, and operational improvement, and multi-party, onshore and offshore service delivery models.


• Bachelor of Arts or Science degree in a business, technical, or scientific field
• MBA/MS or other advanced degree(s) desirable
• Other relevant certifications (e.g., ITIL v4)


• Ability to travel up to 80% domestic and international (on occasion)
Personal Computer Literacy • Advanced MS Office or equivalent skills.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Responsible to manage projects which generate client revenue.
• Is recognized as leader in both project work as well as within ISG. Takes initiative to participate and lead aspects of ISG business.
• Facilitate, evaluate, and confirm the needs of the client business and assist in the assessment of how ISG can address those needs and provide business benefit.
• Interacts directly with senior client and technology services provider executives.
• Assists client strategy and IT assessment projects related to specific technologies (e.g. Cloud Services, SaaS platforms, etc.), IT architecture, process, and design ensuring effective alignment of IT investment with business requirements.
• Provides consultation services to clients and technology service providers in areas of technology expertise, sourcing, project management, financial modeling, executive relationships, leadership, negotiation, administration and marketing.
• Independently develops project work plans and customizes to meet client specifications as well as estimates staffing, task duration, and client staffing requirements.
• Performs data metrics analysis, current state assessments, change readiness, gap and opportunity analysis, delivery model alternatives analysis, and a service delivery strategy.
• Develops complex financial models and possesses a thorough knowledge of client budgets, the budgeting process, corporate finance at large, or geographically dispersed clients.
• Develops, leads, and executes all components of sourcing agreements and associated transactions including the services, financial, performance, resource, governance, service delivery and management, and contract terms.
• Assists in the development of strategy or tactics to move suppliers to the client-desired outcome.
• Assists post-assessment transactional work including managing the sourcing process through vendor selection.
• Leads the planning and the development of all project deliverables and assumes overall responsibility for staffing, budget, work plans, scope, project milestones, issues management and risk management utilizing ISG’s methods, tools, and templates.
